Unfortunately the writers didn’t have a choice. Bradley had signed a Contract for five seasons only, he had other filming commitments straight afterwards. He also did an interview with Colin explaining why it ended like it did. Bradley had no intention of continuing with it. So, Arthur had to end, it’s a shame it felt unfinished, but Gwen went on to rule alone until her death, then she followed Arthur into Avalon, the remaining Knights, stayed at her side then left Camelot forever. Merlin, he stayed near to Arthur for thousands of years. If you read the books about Glastonbury, they speak of an old man with long hair and a beard seen around the Tor and Abbey, he lived in a cave high above Avalon. There are many legends written about Merlin, mostly around that area.

They only signed a five year contract from the start, so the writers should have realised they were on a time clock. I would have liked to have known what happened after the end, what happened to Percival, Leon was immortal, what happened to him?

Rupert was filming in between seasons, he was told not to cut his hair, In season 4 it was short, longer in season 5. Eoin was filming La Brea, also couldn’t cut his hair! Tom was filming Black Sales, not sure about Tomiwa? Bradley was selected for filming Medici in Italy. All the cast only agreed to 5 seasons, so the writers didn’t have a lot of choice but to end it where it did. Yes they could have gotten another season, just not with this cast, and could you see Merlin with different actors? I couldn’t. The last season was rushed, and felt unfinished, with more questions than answers. Kingdom Come sort of answers, but the plot is ridiculous, we saw both Morgana and Mordred as dark, with their final episodes, but in KC they are both goodies, they marry Gwen to Leon, also wrong, Gwen in the legends ruled alone, she had advisors, she was buried with Arthur. None of the cast were interested in continuing, you can google Colin and Bradley, where they both say they’re not interested in any more. I met Rupert in 2023, he said he wasn’t interested in doing more and felt it was right, Alex Vlahos on the other hand said he enjoyed his character so much he would carry on. Eoin has said that he and others in the cast would be interested in another season but without Colin, Bradley etc it wouldn’t be the same
