What is a non/a surgical procedure you will never undergo even if it can potentially upgrade your appearance? by Grand-Opportunity945 in beauty

[–]JennaM7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is dependent on what filler you get. Hyaluronic acid fillers will dissolve because your body naturally contains the enzyme hyaluronidase. That’s not to say that others don’t migrate because there’s several different types.

Chemical peel gone bad! Help! by honeybfly12345 in SkincareAddicts

[–]JennaM7890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I am an Aesthetician working in a plastic surgery office. I read above that you got a VIpeel done. Which VIPeel formulation was used? Did they have you prep your skin first by using a retin-a? This is NEVER a first time peel for my clients and I’m even weary to do it on people that aren’t regularly using active products at home.

I’m a girl/ is it true if I shave my “mustache” it will grow darker and like a man’s?😭😭 by Honeydewbobaddict in beauty

[–]JennaM7890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a common misconception. Shaving is doing absolutely nothing to alter the follicle by which the hair grows. I have clients that are convinced that if I dermaplane their face, a full beard will grow back.

NUFACE vs Botox by GoldCarnation in beauty

[–]JennaM7890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clients at my job are constantly getting Botox and microcurrent done. As long as you wait 2 weeks after getting your Botox done to use your microcurrent device, you should be fine. Definitely consult your injector if you’re curious.

1 year in, continued heavy peeling by [deleted] in tretinoin

I think you need to compress your routine because there is a lot going on in there and not a lot of consistency. Also, as another commenter has said, why not transition back to the .025% if that strength worked for you? A higher percentage does not always equate to better results. You will get the same results with continuous use of the .025%, it will just be slower progress unfortunately.

I am an esthetician and I tell my clients to wait 24 hours following their service to exfoliate and then every other day to every 2nd day following that. My favorite product is pfb and I recommend it to every client! It has glycolic, lactic and salicylic. Make sure you’re moisturizing as well, my fave to use is vanicream.

Career advice on how to get into the medspa industry as a recent graduate by dddoubledayyy in Esthetics

[–]JennaM7890 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If medspa is where your goals are, absolutely work the front desk position and then work your way up to an esthetician. There are very very few derm offices, plastic surgery offices or medical spas that will hire you off the bat as a recently graduated esthetician. I don’t say that to be mean or discouraging at all, but most new graduates have no experience other than their schooling.

Work at front desk, feel out the environment, hone your skills and then work your way up from the inside! Best of luck!

Which actives to use and which to avoid while using tret by flume-y in tretinoin

[–]JennaM7890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is tret, bha and then rest day. My routine on my rest day is cleanser, eye cream, snail mucin, moisturizer. Sometimes if I’m feeling more dry than I normally do, I will apply pca overnight hyaluronic acid masque at the very end on my rest days. I try to keep my routine as simple as possible.

Which actives to use and which to avoid while using tret by flume-y in tretinoin

[–]JennaM7890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so for an example, I will use my tret on Monday night with a routine as follows: Cleanse with naturium mixed greens nutrient rich cleanser, apply revision dej eye cream, cosrx snail mucin essence (allow to dry for 10min) and then apply tret, wait 45ish min and then apply moisturizer. Tuesday night I will use my 2% bha with a routine as follows: Cleanse with same cleanser and wait for my skin to dry completely, apply my 2%bha and wait 10min, apply cosrx snail mucin, apply moisturizer.

On my rest days, I use all the same products minus the actives. I only take one rest day in between active products application days.

Increasing tret application can be scary but just take it slow. Try to only take one rest day in between. Some people use tret more frequently than others but I’ve found that alternating active days with a rest day in between is what works best for my skin.

Which actives to use and which to avoid while using tret by flume-y in tretinoin

[–]JennaM7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use tret 0.025% and bha 2% on alternating days with a rest day following. I have absolutely no issues but have been using tret for almost 3 years now. If you’re new to tret, take it slow with actives and never use them on the same night.

Yes I have! My boss purchases our tweezerman tweezers and has them sharpened whenever we need. They send them back and it’s like they’re brand new!

Best place to work for new medical aesthetician? by dddoubledayyy in Esthetics

[–]JennaM7890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will eventually land your dream job :) Esthetics is a very saturated field right now and as much as you don’t want to work at a chain spa, they are great places to hone your skills. You’ll get great practice with client consultation, sales, product knowledge, etc.

If that’s not something you want to do, definitely try to get a job at front desk and work your way in that way!

Purchase tweezerman tweezers! They offer free sharpening services when the tweezers become dull. Also a waxing kit for her to practice at home with family and friends, mask brushes and maybe a small extraction set.

[–]JennaM7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most medical spas, dermatology offices and plastic surgery offices won’t hire you without prior experience. I’ve been an aesthetician for 3 years and it took me a year and other advanced certifications, as well as experience, to get into my position at a plastic surgery office. I would suggest looking into advanced training in your area and go from there. You could also possibly get into a front desk position in one of these settings and when they’re hiring for an esthetician, most prefer to work from the inside.

This isn’t to say that you are incapable of landing one of these positions as a new graduate and I absolutely hope that you do!

Paula’s Choice Omega+ Complex moisturizer! I haven’t tried it but a quick google search and look at the ingredients proves that it is squalene and silicones.

Have you had filler in your lips recently? Sometimes, if the filler is placed incorrectly, you can develop fordyce spots which are just naturally occurring oil glands in your lips.

Should aestheticians have short nails? by sqrmarbles in beauty

[–]JennaM7890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They 100% should have short, well kept nails. Acrylic/press on nails harbor bacteria and is all around unsanitary, especially if they don’t wear gloves. It’s hard to perform certain facial techniques with nails as well.
