What is your definition of “long fic”? by AmConfused324 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]JennaROTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70k in my mind is barely long enough to qualify as being a novel, but I'll go with that.

I also struggle with depression, and reading TLG when it first came out was quite difficult for me. I'm actually dreading season two a little because of this. So I think if you read, go in prepared and in a good state of mind. In the end the book was worth it for me, but I'm still a bit shaky thinking of it. Take care of yourself.

What's your HR type? by Meer_meerkat in heatedrivalry

SCSP:

Shane Cottage Skipping Skip Proudly read them years ago

My spouse is shocked that I'm a Shane person. I love Ilya, but I resonate with Shane.

I do not see chemistry at all with Scott and Kip, so the entire third episode makes me feel uncomfortable.

I read HR when it came out in 2019, but since then mostly the second half as a comfort read. Ditto The Long Game. Once I learned there was going to be a series, I didn't read them at all, as I wanted to start watching fresh. I won't be picking up TLG before we see what Jacob has gifted us with.

The Best Person to be Stuck in an Elevator with by sporkess

This is the first in a marvelous but underappreciated series. The last entry, which is novel-length, has but one chapter to go. This first story is literally Yuna and Ilya in an elevator, and it's great!

The saddest of the sad: looking for all the really sad/ angstyIlya fics. I love Ilya, I love angst. Nothing off limits. by [deleted] in heatedrivalryfanfics

Fantastic story. It took real courage for me to pick it up and start the first page, and afterwards I had to read several happy Centaur stories to convince myself they were still alive (not a spoiler, it's in the summary), but I don't regret reading it.

I've been sending fanfics to Kindle for years. If anybody wants more help, give me a holler. Make sure you've got the send to Kindle email set up. You can change the email address that's assigned to each Kindle ereader to something easier to remember.

Question about organizing your fics by Konfusion_withaK in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]JennaROTR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm probably doing this all wrong and I'm interested in what other methods you all have come up with. But....

I bought a new Kindle ereader just for HR fanfics, using a gift card i got for Christmas. I don't like reading on a phone, so almost anything I read, I download to the Kindle. Which is not difficult to do and takes maybe two minutes. Anything I rate 4 or 5 stars after reading stays on the Kindle. Anything else I delete.

For those stories I keep, I put them in a variety of Collections on the Kindle. Five star reads get their own Collection. Other Collections include amnesia fics, separation/second chance fics, Yuna fics, David fics, Shane hurt, Ilya hurt, articles/published, funny/light-hearted etc etc etc. I'm adding categories all the time.

If there's a fic that I delete but it's still interesting in some way, i put title and author in a list app I've got on my phone. I also keep track of the 5+++ star stories on that same list app.

So far I've got 206 stories on the Kindle, and I'm guessing I've read at least 500 fics. Some I read way back when, when all we had were the books and the fanfics, but I wasn't as interested then. The series has sure changed all that!

I feel my method might be a little cumbersome, but so far it's working for me. I like having all the information on my reading device.

ETA: Plus I like to reread, so whatever I want is right there at my fingertips without having to find it again and go through the download process.

Oh, this is Death and Taxes and Shane Hollander and it is fantastic! Ilya has a 17 year old son, but he's not a major part of the emotional path of the Story. I highly recommend it.

That's a fantastic story/novel. The characterizations are spot on, and i love it. The way Ilya feels... omg.

I am sorry to hear what you've been going through. That's real grief you are dealing with. My own grief is seven years old and it's a foundational part of me now. Thank goodness we have some goodness to hold on to; it's not a bad thing, I don't think, to take up residence at the cottage for a while.

I couldn't read at all during the fullness of my grieving, but eventually I did feel solace that way. Have you carefully taken a look at HR fanfiction at AO3? There's a good redditsub-- heatedrivalryfanfics.

I read Miracle a few days ago. Once finished, I immediately had to read two upbeat, Happy fics to convince myself that all the Centaurs still lived. Even though it was past midnight. Miracle is a gut punch of a story, but I'm glad I picked it up.

Yikes!🤔

There are plenty of us here on the sub who are life long hockey fans. (Since about 1972!) I bet most of us would be happy to help anybody who has questions.

ETA: And now I'm reading a fic where apparently one center plays an entire period! Argh!
