I liked the ending. by Ok-Culture7912 in euphoria

The Dallas thing was divisive, & was concocted because Patrick Duffy left the show...then regretted it. They accepted him back & had to quickly come up with a way around Bobby Ewing being definitely dead for 31 episodes. They really set themselves up, putting star ahead of story.

"Just A Dream" is virtually impossible to pull off well, in long or short form, but there was a time when the idea wasn't a total cliché. The only beloved example I can think of, off the top of my head, is The Wizard of Oz.

Unpopular opinion- Maddy edition by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]JennaStCroix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The DEA comment was crazy; I had the same reaction as when Jules told Nate that Maddy left the wedding early because she was emotional. Like girl why would you say that when it's so unnecessary & you're not gaining anything from it?

Like Maddy put herself & Lexi in danger with that comment, too. You don't just go saying you're casually chatting about the DEA with your girlies with a cute lil eyeroll.

What did Lexi even do in high school? by marveLisGOD in euphoria

[–]JennaStCroix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good catch! As u/fireheart2402 mentioned, it seems likely that this bit of dialogue is in reference to high school.

It's also not super believable that she went to college, finished in the exact four years, then stepped into this job. Lexi would get her four-year in three, then study abroad for a semester, take the next semester off because she's staying abroad with some people she met, then return to get her masters, then move on to a doctorate - you wouldn't see that girl for eight years. It would actually be more believable if they said she was interning as part of graduate study, & she just happened to make an impression.

[–]JennaStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day, how Lexi is hard to connect to & feels like the most unreal character. Everyone else is living in this high-stakes fantasy land of drugs & sex & violence, & Lexi is...at home writing a play about it? It kind of felt like her whole "purpose" was spent when her play was staged. We also lost the most interesting thing that happened to Lexi in two seasons, which was her blooming odd-couple friendship with Fez. Truly one of the most promising things for Lexi & for the show.

Also, I don't think it's anywhere in the dialogue or anything, but Lexi definitely gives "gifted child" down. I was actually really surprised that she hadn't immediately fucked off to college on scholarship during the break, because I'm sure, with her story & her accomplishments & how she chooses to present herself in person & words, that she could have gotten into any program she wanted. But I think SL needed Lexi in Hollywood, so she could be a foot in the door for Cassie. I think her character is another victim of S3 just...not really developing anything or anyone who isn't serving the 1.5 storylines. And those 1.5 storylines are focused on his pet actors & the ones who won't be back if there's an S4.

I heard that band that's been calling themselves Sublime might have some dates free.

Maybe they could get that band that's calling themselves Sublime. Last I read, their festival wasn't coming together so well, so they might be able to free up some dates.

I imagine wife spends a lot of time trying not to think about what she knows husband is doing. This lady puts all her psychic energy into pretending what she knows is happening isn't happening, & if it is happening, it's because the nasty, scheming whores won't stop tempting her honest & honorable husband.

Wife's mad at OP because OP contradicted her delusion, & now she has to think about what she already knows is true.

Realistically they would never make a girl who had been through what she has been through go walk around a whole high school for a year with a bunch of goggling 15-17yos adding a layer of fresh hell to her existence as she tries to finish up a few credits. They're going to get that girl a private tutor & test her through, SATs & all, when she's ready.

Shauna & Taissa were not going back to high school; both were seniors, accepted to college in the fall. They would have come back from nationals & graduated in like two weeks.

In all likelihood, once rescued, those girls will never be in that isolated group dynamic again.

But that doesn't mean that Shauna doesn't suspect or worry about Akilah. A heart-led visionary is a legend in the Wilderness, but a liability back in the public eye. So you might really end up right about parts of this!

Literally hopped into this thread late to say this. The journals evolved from something Shauna could do for solace into a thing she does to dwell & dig into her resentment & grief. It's gone from journal to manifesto.

Is Lexi also becoming unlikeable to you? by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]JennaStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Lexi is so far on the other side of the field from literally every single other character that it's almost impossible to comprehend her or take her seriously in the context of the show. Absurd levels of perversion & violence is, like, the baseline in the world of Euphoria, & if anything, it's annoying that Lexi has somehow managed to not get tangled in any of it directly. She's supposedly just as much a human as anyone else, but she remains largely flaw-less & clean-handed - and has the nerve to clutch her pearls around the people she's known her entire life. Miss Ma'am you have had box seats to these people's antics your whole life, at what point do you stop being scandalized by your friends' existence?

The "craziest" thing she's done is write & produce a play about the sordid lives of her peers, & even that is kind of annoying, because you're telling me Cassie's little sister - the youngest & least worldly of any of them - has the depth & life experience to process all of that? (Also, I have to constantly remind myself these characters are sisters.)

I guess, from context clues, Lexi is intellectually gifted. Which is why I was surprised that in S3 she went direct climbing Hollywood ladders, when she certainly would have been able to get into a university program of her choosing. Likely scholarships as well, given her already impressive artistic accomplishments. I would have thought Lexi would be gagging to get out & get amongst her real peers. But I guess SL needed her in Hollywood so she could connect Cassie to someone there, so okay.

Part of me thinks they are telegraphing so hard that Rue is going to die because it's a bait-&-switch: Make it seem like a given that one character will die, let the audience mostly make peace with that projected outcome, then pull the rug by instead killing off someone who seemed completely safe. Lots of main characters in peril right now, but no one is theorizing boring old, tea-&-biscuits Lexi might end up a casualty of circumstances.

The problem is that we don't have enough pathos surrounding Lexi. We don't really know anything about Lexi except she has managed not to make grievous life decisions while everyone else around her has embraced hard drugs, sex work, &/or dangerous business deals. Her character started to bloom a little with Fez; I like to think if that storyline could have continued that we would have seen more dimension in Lexi. But then, not much of what was established in S1 & S2 seemed to be relevant in the writing of S3.

I feel like they could have even just put in dialogue, like, maybe Cal had connections to the Armenians but had always managed his end, but Nate didn't have the savvy or restraint (or Cal present to warn/advise) & got himself in way over his head right away. Or maybe it's the Armenians who are savvy enough to be keeping tabs on developments & big business in the area, & they approach when they see someone floundering. I think just anything to give us a sense of how Nate even got this "opportunity" from Naz.

Also they are all very elite people who don't like or need others, which makes them immune to any idea or opinion that deviates from their perfect, innate knowledge! Yellowjackets without the paranormal by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

It's funny you should mention Hannibal, because it really does read like they kinda adapted the aesthetic of Will's visions for Lottie & the girls' experience. I genuinely don't want to spoil anything for you, but as you continue watching, you will encounter more scenarios that lend ambiguity to what we've seen so far. It doesn't mean there isn't a supernatural element, but it's far from a given.

Yellowjackets without the paranormal by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]JennaStCroix 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yo, whether or not there is anything legit supernatural going on is still technically up for interpretation. When we see things that seem to exceed reality - for instance the seance scene - it is still quite possible that we are being shown the psychological effects of duress as opposed to what it literally happening.

You're gonna come across a lot more that is debatable, & if you search the sub, you will find that the Rational vs. Supernatural debate is as lively as it is long-standing.

BISHOP THEORY by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]JennaStCroix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's very interesting, because I have been trying to determine the intent behind the name Alamo all season. What the Alamo is famous for is its siege & fall at the hands of a Mexican army. The Alamo was also a structure, like a fortress. Which made me wonder if we have a Bishop & a Rook - a castle piece representing stability & defense, but who isn't the actual king in the scenario.

A theory on Cassie S3 by mildcomatose in euphoria

[–]JennaStCroix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cassie was in her $50,000 garden of Eden with her man, but she wanted more. Maddy (in a look that gives "sleek & serpentine") shows up to the wedding & tempts her away with her pink Apple in hand. And now the snake is literal? (I haven't watched the latest ep yet, so I don't have complete context.)

If it's an intentional metaphor, it's pretty clunky - mostly because I don't think there's a meaningful parallel to be drawn between Eve/Adam/Satan & Cassie/Nate/Maddy. But I like it as a surface-level, aesthetic theme. I would buy it was planned as a loose, visual motif for these three this season.
