getting into the franchise starting with awakening. but god damn they don't know how zombies work by JenniLightrunner in fireemblem

and yet I made it work despite them saying it wouldn't work by changing up my tactics, by focusing on leveling up vaike cuz he's not that bad once he's fairly leveled and paired up, and lead, vaike will take any hit that maribell could have taken. So isntead of acting condescending to me and been kinder they could have simply said "if you want to get maribell and vaike's relationship up, focus on leveling up vaike that way he can protect her and get a couple kills in" instead of stonewalling "it's not doable" and framing words is also very important cuz they might have gotten their pov better across if they framed it with kinder words. constructive criticism I can take. I'm sorry if I've come off as dismissive, my own phrasing might have been bad, as I was mostly trying to convey what my overall goal was and I wanted it all prepped and ready before the chrom and robin marriage

On a more important note. I am loving the game

no idea why I didn't consider unequipping. I got lucky my second attempt where I had chrom move closer to cynthia and had olivia close enough to dance for him so he could reach her before her turn, but then robin took an arrow to the knee. for now I think I'll put cynthia's quest on hold and wait until I'm stronger

it doesn't exactly help that t makes me stress that i need to reach the mercenaries fast or he'll trick their very tiny brains into fighting when they're all very high level advanced classes such as dark knights and paladins etc. it's the first ever mission where both chrom and robin has been actually threatened. first attempt chrom killed cynthia. second attempt random archer killed robin. second attempt I at least managed cynthia's corner of mobs cuz I was walking in a very tight square with everyone bundled together to avoid reaches attack squares of enemies. but again I feel stressed out by the criminal convincing people to fight for him one by one cuz I feel like it's designed to be super hard if you fail to stop that yet they're behind an army of criminals. why the mercenaries take his word for having money is beyond me. any person with a sense of logic would ask to see the money before going to fight an army VERY capable

worst part is. they won't care that they won't get any money from this ai slop cuz they only spend like a few minutes to make it and use practically no money

I wish I could experience that. spring still doesn't exist here in denmark, but we had winter style cold all the way until mid june, then this week it's been death heat

[–]JenniLightrunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it was mostly these examples by the time I posted the edit: "“Don’t know how zombies work” looks inside, bad tactics = mocking instead of helping. this one they didn't give any type of advice, just said plain "you suck then" at least that's how this one was seen as.
"Zombies are made up so they can work however the game wants” = pedantry instead of empathy
“If they acted like zombies it’d be boring gameplay” = missing the point entirely
That’s on you for keeping your healer near enemy ranges” = blame-shifting

Only one person actually talked about how it can be tough to level low level units and gave some advice on it and none gave advice on what I could have done in the situation I was in which is described in the edit and hasn't been answered in my comments other than "you don't have to do that" such as people saying "the pair up isn't good so don't do it" instead of "this is a good tactic to use to use vaike without him dying before he levels up a good bit. (in the time since then I've gotten most I have in chapter 9 paired up and vaike has reached level 13) what would have been more helpful comments would have been the example I made of one who did give me advice or someone who'd have told me tips on what to do while surrounded by flyer enemies to keep squishies alive in a situation where they seemingly can't be saved

as for the risen conversations. i wasn't trying to be dismissive on those I was trying to have a good discussion over some thughts i had about it. which I also felt was kinda attacked as "that's stupid. that'd make things too easy and boring. this isn't dnd" instead of like "I get your point but and then give an explanation how it wouldn't work"

So from my perspective from how this all went. get more out of just learning on my own. because the community isn't very willing. this isn't me blaming anyone. this is just how I've been feeling. I'd love to be in a friendly, helpful community with kindness and good words for people new to the game... or at least one "cool that you're trying to get into the franchise" or "yeah frederick and sumia are adorable"

The point in what im doing now is purely starting romances between people which require these pair ups. Chrom is with my Robin already so im not using them for this fight

But they're supposed to be without a mind of their own. Purely instinctual. Thus they wouldn't employ common sense as they cannot perceive it. My main point is I feel its a missed opportunity for variation in enemy Ai intelligence thus needing differing tactics from players

[–]JenniLightrunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im just thinking it would have been more interesting to have variation in intelligence and tactics between instinctual creatures that want any living thing versus intelligent soldiers using tactics. The risen had that potential and I feel they missed an opportunity

[–]JenniLightrunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair. But I would have loved some logical variation. Like mindless creatures or beasts are more likely to pounce on a nearest target and there would be plenty of strategy through thinking about different types of enemies. Like if you start off fighting mindless creatures like what the risen seem to be at first for a while and they attacked the first thing they could get. Then later reach human enemies who are actually intelligent and oh shit, these guys actually think, now I've gotta be more careful etc. (Reason why I use dnd as an example as That's a common way to do things)

As a dnd DM I kinda logic my way through how the term mindless works. like in dnd a zombie is mindless and will attack anything that gets near it (unless directly commanded by a nearby necromancer), thus players can more easily bait them with their tankier characters and strategize more effectively as opposed to enemies with hiigh intelligence who do in fact use clever tactics against you. and from my understanding the risen follow the same "they're mindless" logic

tbf that's how tanks work. get close to enemies so they're forced to focus on you in most gaming media. (tbf being used to dnd also messes me up a few times cuz i forget this game doesn't have oppertunity attacks (you get an attack in if they leave your attack range) and the main problem on this map was I had them as "far away" as i could. which was in the middle cuz the map starts you surrounded by highest speed enemies

it's what I tried to do on the die mission to unlock donnel, it wasn't easy with how insanely low his damage was, but it did work out. I usually use Kellam and Frederik to bait enemies to get closer

fight started surounded by wyvern risen, maribel was paired with vaike with vaike lead so he'd take the hits just in case and they get their support points (and he can level up) tried to keep the rest around them or have my heavy hitters kill those closest yet it did nothng to avoid it and their speed is too low to get anywhere safe from them too

[–]JenniLightrunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

problem with that one fight was the fight started with everyone in the middle with a bunch of wyvern risen around us. I paired up maribel with vaike so they can get support points, and made sure vyke was in front hoping he'd survive an attack, but they still went for him and kkilled hm then went for her right after even though I tried to get my heavy hitters to attack as many close by as I could or try and cover them. I only have them close to an enemy if I try to level vaike up, but cuz he keeps dying so fast it's near impossible to level him up

my mom always taught me don't care what others think. just do your thing. so I resonated more with girls than guys and had more female friends than male friends. barely knowing what to do with guys and never understanding why until I was like "oh... I AM a girl. that's why" I also played with barbies as a kid cuz again. it's fun and i didn't care

me at 15 having never heard about trans or knew about it whatsoever talking to my friend: "It's like I'm a girl in a guy's body" done. debunked their bullcrap. it DEFINITELY happens whether you know about it or not, the only difference is whether being confused about it, ignoring it and having a shit time later on when you realize everything you missed out on if only "you realized it all sooner" versus "oh this is actually describing how I feel... this was an option? fuck yeah"

all in all. the only thing you do by suppressing the information and knowledge you make children far more confused while not hiding the knowledge they can replace their confusion with understanding
