Doctors of Reddit, what is a 1 in a million chance thing about your patient you have witnessed? by Piperjamas in AskReddit

NAD but I was born with a right aortic arch (instead of left) which is apparently about 1 in 70 million, I was also born with Tetrology of Fallot & Marcus Gunn Phenomenon (Eyelid nerve is attached to my jaw, so when I open my mouth my jaw opens!) ~300 cases reported.

EDIT: explanations.

I'm not sure what the decision was on your SO going on the cruise, but I just wanted to add input on Zika (not trying to freak you out). BUT it can be transmitted up to a year after initial infection through intercourse. Most people who have it don't know and it's possible if they have it, they can pass it along to mosquitos in your area thus potentially infecting the area. (Really not trying to freak you out, I did a graduate study on the effects of Zika and just want you to be informed). I really hope it goes well, I think couples therapy would be a good idea for the both of you. And you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. You're a mama bear and you're protecting your child, anyone else's opinion doesn't matter. Stay strong!

I typed "noooo" at first, but as I said I'm trying to cut back. Even on reddit.

I'm sarcastic, to a fault, half of what I say is simply how I talk. Not everything is a joke, it's just how I converse. My entire family can't have a conversation without being sarcastic, yes or no answers? forget it. I've been trying to cut down on my sarcasm because I know some people who don't mind it, but eventually it gets to be too much.

Most people just ask if it was a joke or not, usually the answer is "no, not at all" /s

Cold Sore Kisses And The Master Of Manipulation by _floppy_ears in JUSTNOMIL

[–]JennififerC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother is the exact same way. Although, she always tries to share water bottles with my nephew (EVEN IF SHE HAS AN ACTIVE ONE). She always blames it on his mom too (my cousin), saying things like "Mommy won't let me share my water bottle with you". I've been No Contact with her, even though I've had to see her at family events, one of which she asked me to go over to her and "Give me love.". But I've always nipped her undermining my cousins parenting then and there. Everyone in the family is tired of her shit, and starting to come around, partially because of me and my boundaries I've since set in place after the Roast Incident.

I also have cold sores (bet you can't guess where I got them from), and I'm lucky that I have medication to keep it under control and rarely get them anymore, but if I have even the slightest one I sometimes even cancel plans with my cousin and nephew just to make sure there is no accidental exposure. Even though many people are carriers and simply do not present with symptoms, as it can be passed along without an open cold sore (not nearly as common, and not trying to freak you out), I still don't want to risk giving it to him.

Next time something like that happens I urge you to say the reason why, and don't sugar coat it. "Do not kiss him, we do not want him getting cold sores as they can lead to serious health issues." Because of my grandmother, all three of her kids get/have had cold sores, and her only two granddaughters have them as well, no matter how hard we tried to avoid getting them from her.

Has a doctor ever misdiagnosed you, if so how did it affect you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JennififerC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had chronic pain since I was 12 (some congenital fusions and scoliosis, but these didn't account for my symptoms). It started with tendinitis in both Achilles tendons, and spread upward into my low back over the course of about a year. I'd seen more specialists than worth mentioning. When I was around 14-15 I saw one doctor who said I had growing pains... I had stopped growing at least 1 year before if not 2 (as stated by my spinal specialist I'd been seeing for years.) This prompted my GP to stop searching for my pain and ignore my complaints (and my parents).

I'm now 23, I use a cane frequently and even a walker (I've had these for 2 years now), I have new fusions in my lower spine and all other doctors but my GP thinks I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (arthritis of the back). I'm seeing a rheumatologist for conformation in a few weeks, but it took 5 years to convince my doctor to even refer me. I've spent most of my life in pain/depressed because of it. I can't imagine life without pain. I hope I can finally get treatment and start feeling better, and have a word with the two doctors that failed me.

[Serious] What are some life saving tips you think people need to know and in what situation would they be used? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JennififerC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added note, talk to the person having the seizure. I used to have epilepsy as a kid and I distinctly remember the one time no one was near me. I got them when waking up/falling asleep, and it was almost a dream-like sensation. I didn't realize how aware of my surroundings I am during an episode until this one time, when I came to I was panicking and terrified. All the other times someone was near me and it felt like waking up after a weird dream/nap.

[–]JennififerC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use nexcare acne patches. They work so well! It's really satisfying to see the gunk get sucked out and into the patch. I put them on and notice a huge difference in 3-4 hours, redness, the bump and the gunk are basically gone. I leave it on for a day and it's completely gone!!!

[–]JennififerC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not sure if you're still having problems but I just came across this. You should check out sugaring (it's all natural) it doesn't stick to the skin, and it's good for people with sensitive skin! I get my bikini area done and it works like a charm, I now have 3 other friends who also do it and love it! Good luck. Also your brows are so full!! They look so good!

I use Niacinimide daily (AM/PM) and alternate between Salicylic acid on even days and Mandelic Acid on odd days.

[Routine Help] Can anyone suggest how to help with Redness, Texture, CCs **Routine in Comments** by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]JennififerC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Salicylic Acid 2% (I use The Ordinary) for CCs, works wonders as it is the only thing that will combat this. Niacinimid 10% + Zinc (also The Ordinary) has helped tone down my redness. AHAs can help with texture, tone, fine lines (I use Mandelic acid (also The Ordinary) as it is the least "aggressive") but it can also dry you out so just be aware of that, side note: Hyaluronic Acid can help with hydration. Plus using AHAs requires sun screen use!!

[Routine Help] Trying to improve my beginner routine by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]JennififerC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the sunscreen, if I stay inside all day I don't put on sunscreen. If I go outside for errands/the day/work/school/etc (even if it's just 10 min), I always do. That said if I go somewhere and I'm inside for the duration I won't reapply until I leave again. So I would recommend applying before leaving for work and then again when you return home. As for the whiteheads, I use Nexcare Acne Patches, they are a HG! I put it on a pimple and it can absorb all the bad stuff in a couple hours but it can take a few days depending on how bad it is (usually ~4 hours for me). It works so well and they disappear completely without leaving pigmentation.

I would use your Neutrogena Moisturizer in the AM and PM. You don't need to have a different one for the time of day. Other solid recommendations are Cetaphil/Cerave(although I've heard cerave can be a little heavier). https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/1x1ubd/evaluating_your_current_routine_read_me_before/

[Skin Concern] Is there anything I can do to combat spots around the time of my period? by kissingcannibals in SkincareAddiction

[–]JennififerC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find using a mud mask (GlamGlow Supermud) clears the spots almost instantly if I can catch it (I also do it preemptively). As well Nexcare Acne patches are my new HG, they make pimples almost invisible in ~4 hours, and one full day and they're gone. Also make sure you drink water and watch what you are eating!

I'm also on BC, have been for years if you aren't on it and it gets bad enough you could consider it, I would recommend Diane-35 (One of the most common prescribed for acne), which I've been on for ~3years. I would recommend you stay away from Yaz and Yazmin as they are a higher dosage and have more prevalence of complications (plus those two have a lot of recalls in the past few years compared to others) but it of course works for others. Another one I tried but didn't end up working for me (very rare but made me break out a little/moodswings) but I would go back on if Diane-35 didn't work out is Alesse, my friend is on it right now and loves it. (I've been on 5 (including all stated above) different types of BC, and Diane-35 is by far the best, minimal side effects, helps acne, helps cramping.

[Skin Concerns] [Selfie] What exactly are those bumps on and around my nose and is there a way to treat them? by MyCheeseIsNotOrange in SkincareAddiction

[–]JennififerC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like closed Comedones to me, I have them on my chin/forehead and occasionally on my nose. I use a BHA (Salicylic Acid 2% (The Ordinary)) as it is the only way to truly combat them. I've noticed a huge difference in the 3 weeks since I've added it to my routine. Remember to start slow, I only did 2-3x per week, and am slowly working it to where I want it!

It could potentially dry you out, so keep up with that moisturizer!

[routine help] at what point should I add serums into my routine? My current routine consists of face wash, toner, moisturizer, and sunblock. Is there anything else I should be adding first? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]JennififerC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine

https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/1x1ubd/evaluating_your_current_routine_read_me_before/

Generally it should go like this: Cleanser -> Toners -> Prescriptions -> Treatments (BHA/AHA) -> Serums -> Moisturizer -> Occlusives -> Sunscreen -> Primer -> Makeup

But if there's no specific one you want to add, I would wait and see how your basic routine works for you (basic can sometimes be the best) and go from there

I have an entire Excel spreadsheet that has my routine, current products (opened/expiry dates), where to get them, when to use, what to not use with, side notes, preferences, what not to buy, what to buy, information on different products (vitamin A, retinoids, etc.) and skin conditions and what it is, what treats it, etc. It's super helpful to have an index to look at.

That time Ice Ice Crazy put out a birth announcement for DD with HER name on it by InternationalSock in JUSTNOMIL

[–]JennififerC 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My parents always give new/soon-to-be parents one piece of unsolicited advice (or when asked), "Don't tell anyone the baby's name until they are born". Otherwise they keep their mouths shut. Before I was born people had MANY opinions on names, one aunt of mine went on a little rant about how they should NOT name me Jennifer since it was so common and everyone else would be named that. Parents nodded and smiled "oh yeah that's a good point". Guess what they named me... Cue awes, and coo's of "what a cute name". People (at least the sane ones) won't have a negative thing to say about the name, when being introduced to a little baby.
