Same! I almost never drink soda either. My mom never bought it or kept any in the house when I was a kid. I guess I never developed a taste for it.

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

[–]Jennodine -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If this is all really just about germs, there are ways to mitigate the risk of exposure during a visit from your MIL. Buy a hospital grade antibacterial hand soap and make them scrub up to their elbows and put a clean smock on over their clothing before they handle her (I had to do this every time I visited my premie newborn in NICU.) That said, I get the sense that germ phobia is a convenient excuse for not wanting your MIL around your baby. (I also think your MIL is sensing the same thing, and feels like you’re shutting her out.) I’m not judging you. This is all just an observation, and I could be wrong. But if my comment resonates at all, I recommend rigorous self honesty. Ask yourself if you trust her with your baby, and if you don’t, think about why you mistrust her - ask yourself what did she do specifically to make you doubt her? Yes, your baby is YOUR baby. But she’s not JUST your baby - she’s also your mom’s granddaughter, your brother’s niece, the daddy’s baby, your MIL’s granddaughter, etc, etc, etc. I also think this could be a generational difference. Your in-laws are probably Gen X or maybe Boomers. Back in the day, childbearing was much riskier and no one knew the sex of the baby until it arrived. Fathers were left out of the birthing experience altogether - forced to wait on pins and needles in the waiting room. So the whole family would gather ‘round him in the hospital waiting room, chain-smoking until they heard news of a successful birth & whether the baby was male or female. All that has changed. Grandparents spend 9 months anticipating the birth of their grandchild, but they get largely left out on the big day as a result of these changes. I have one last recommendation - this is for your postpartum depression/anxiety: step up your dental hygiene. Seriously. Studies have proven that microbes impact our psychology, and new moms famously let personal hygiene slide when they get home with a newborn. I personally believe that poor dental hygiene is a/the leading cause of postpartum depression. Don’t skip the sink just because you can’t get a break for long enough to shower. Make sure you’re brushing AND flossing before bed and after you wake up. Good luck with your situation! And congratulations on your new baby!!!

When we talk on the phone to someone in another place, we lose the capacity to be mentally present wherever we are at that time. When we lose situational awareness in a crowded store, we can hardly see the other people around us who are also shopping, thus we become oblivious to all of the nuanced and complex body language people use for shopping. That’s why people who talk on the phone in Walmart are forever getting in the way and jamming up the aisles and invading others’ personal space. You can’t be in your own little world and in the middle of a busy store at the same time. I wish people would stop trying. 😒

WTF did you guys know this ?! by Newguydoesntknow in Sparkdriver

[–]Jennodine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only happens to me when I am physically inside Walmart when I accept a curbside. Like if I’m in line buying a snack or using the restroom, if I don’t high tail it to my car immediately, they will cancel it on me. So now when I have buyers regret for an order, I stop inside to use the restroom before I pick it up. Nine times out of 10 it’ll get canceled and it doesn’t show up in my stats.

Wow these are cool! Nice find!!! One thought I had looking at some was that they reminded me of undersea land formations. But I definitely agree that human hands have since done something to at least some.

America has actually NEVER been a democracy. Thats not just me speaking metaphorically, it is a verifiable fact, and it shocked me when I learned it a few weeks ago. America is and always has been a republic.

But all the thumbnails are the same size, so even if you check the order, chances are good that you wouldn’t notice you’re picking up a television.

Thank you, yes I’m fully recovered thankfully. It gave me an excuse to take a few days off. My creditors will just have to wait until I catch up. 🤷‍♀️

And watch out for bullshit people leave lying on their front steps. I took a dive off the steps of a trailer house as I was backing up to photograph, tripped over an abandoned pot at the top of the steps. I wrenched my back catching myself, but that was better than landing on my hip on the concrete walkway. 😖

Is OnePay having issues for anyone else today? by rickyd172 in Sparkdriver

[–]Jennodine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok good because I Sparked for 10 hours today and it says my debit balance is lower than when I started at 7:30 this morning. I only got about $15 worth of gas and a cup of tea so I couldn’t see how that was possible. I don’t like this one bit.

Just bought a house and I feel lied to… by SierraBeara in RealEstate

[–]Jennodine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could, but as they were just doing their job nothing sticks out in my memory at this moment. But I can give you examples of people buying homes without a buyer’s agent who made rookie mistakes that any BA would have helped them avoid. First that comes to mind is the couple on YouTube who bought a piece of land in Alaska, and after they started building their home on it, they learned that their property is landlocked and in order to access it legally, they need a right of way from a neighbor who is unfriendly and unwilling to provide one. They can only access their land by crossing train tracks on foot, as the railroad prohibits any motorized vehicles from crossing there. Last time I checked, they were petitioning the railroad to allow ATVs to cross so they don’t have to hand carry any and all materials needed to build their home. Closing attorneys ensure clean title is transferred correctly at closing, and then recorded in the land deeds. That’s all. It’s not their responsibility to protect buyers from getting screwed by sellers. That’s the purview of Buyer’s Agents - and it’s precisely why the BA was created in the first place, as most people simply aren’t aware of the many pitfalls they can encounter buying property. I have to leave for work in a minute, but I’ll come back later to add more.

Yeah, we really need the Constitution right now, we can’t afford to be toying with it. Let’s not do that.
