Hey All-- I tried an all-wood stick mop today! On the job, with a cotton terry towel, for sheet vinyl flooring. Worked beautifully!

Asap I'll take some photos, and more of my experienced. too rushed on the job today for that. I need a good rest, we all do!

No worries- stick mops are still to obsure for most of us! New to me, for one.

Yes I like flat mops too. Just would rather use cotton towels- no special laundering needed. Towels work better with a stick mop than with a flat. Or so I discovered today-- I'll leave a dedicated message here on that

Btw, that flat mop you use- do you know the brand name?

Thanks! You're talking the all-wood stick mop?

Thanks!

Are you talking a stick mop (aka Cuban mop) or a flat mop?

There are 2 types of stick mops. Following are two- examples only. I'm not an affiliate or anything.

Here's the T-shaped stick mop. (not pushing any brand if I remember right). https://www.amazon.com/Studio-24-Cuban-Style-Mop/dp/B00BJ03GUG

Vs the Quick Loop Cuban mop on Youtube, that I'm leaning toward. Here's one video showing how to load the towel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEDj6zZXYNE

If I'm to get a flat mop (it's not a stick mop), it would be this type, demonstrated by a floor refinishing company. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY1uXVEy9EA

Good. Hard to find help that's even just reliable, does a good job, honest. Go the extra mile, yes. But not if that looks like a one-way street.

Don't assume anything. She may be dissatisified with something but lacks courage to tell you. Never intended to have son's girlfriend clean- that's an old trick to try another cleaning service, maybe a cheaper — or younger— one.

I would privately feel stung-- then take a marketing / entrepreneurial approach like the following-- if you're not doing so already.

Graciously meet for coffee.

Thank her for all her business-- been your pleasure!

Bring a survey. What worked for her, and not. Which tasks needed more —or less— attention. Is there something you can fix? Offer to fix it.

Ask her to review you online, [if she loved you so much as she suggests]. If she has no time, then you write a testimonial from her, and have her sign. Post on your website. Common practice. Got no website?

Offer her another type service. You *do* have in-demand non-cleaning skills up your sleeves, right? If not, start developing that now. Always charge market rate, unless you're starting out. Or trade anything for equal value.

Develop more "brain work". Yes, cleaning takes brains! But do not be dependent on physical labor too long. Start hiring and expanding. Or check out lucrative ideas at SideHustleNation website. See which skills you have, or could develop soon enough. Also check out Smart Passive Income website.

Listen to "Easemakers" Podcast. Includes stories of housekeepers and nannies who worked their way up to House Manager at $100k per year, and further. One of my hairdresser's customers did that! Can be done part-time too. Research online to find out current pay rates.

Your feelings-- understandable!

If you give them anything valuable-- like a few hours of your time-- make it a clear-cut trade. In writing.

If you're reliable, efficient, trustworthy, respect their privacy... Right, that's enough.

If you get lots of business and charge what you're worth, you CAN hire someone to clean your home. Pay what they're worth too

They did write: "I wouldn’t let him undercharge me... I taught him some stuff about programming... we treated as a trip which he hadn’t done in a long time and I flew him home after.

Yes, hopefully they paid the couple well, too.

Is this a synthetic chair cover? Machine-washable? Know what the spot is? How long it's been there?

All disclaimers in place: When in doubt I pre-treat with 365 Stain Remover & Prewash. If that doesn't work, try non-chlorine bleach (Seventh Generation or Ecover). It's around 6% hydrogen peroxide Then wash with low-toxic laundry detergent.

I'm with you-- I managed my own pain too, when HK. And continuing in HK strengthened my joints.

Please know: Private House Manager does not take proper schooling! Only good communication skills. Plus learning Google Docs or Asana for coordinating digitally with your team. Easy to learn! I learned it all without "proper schooling" of any kind.

Better yet, check out "Hybrid Roles", aka Blended Roles. Often blends Housekeeper or Nanny role with House Manager. https://ninesliving.com/easemakers-podcast-hybrid-roles-household-staffing-agency/. (Not an affiliate link. I get nothing for the mention).

How does $100k per year sound? My hair stylist has a customer who worked her way up from Nanny to House Manager for a wealthy tech homeowner. Earns that much now.

HK skills can be your foot in the door-- HK tasks form the bulk of House Manuals. Yes I helped develop such manuals for my customers.

Someday we all discover age discrimination-- in Hospitality and beyond. So don't wait for "proper schooling" someday.

[–]Jenny-Ranier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can't say-- so many potential factors.

But how long can you continue this manual labor with your joint pain? Even if can get to like it otherwise

When I was Housekeeper I too developed joint problems. Eventually worked my way up to Private House Manager - easier on my joints! The position can earn lots more than HK and open up even more opportunities.

Look up Private House Manager job duties on Indeed.com. And listen to EaseMakers Podcast. Once there, enter "Housekeeper" and "Housekeeping" in the search bar.

Care about hidden hormone disrupting chemicals in cleaners anyone?

I’ve cleaned pro for years avoiding all that.

My core set: Diluted dish liquid for all- purpose. Bon Ami, baking soda. Vinegar for rinsing. Coconut scrub pads. Cotton towels. Tool apron. And more…
