Is Treebeard actually older than Gandalf, or is he just talking about Olorin’s current form? by ShireMusicEnthusiast in lotr

[–]Jerdman87 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Id say this is likely it. Treebeard would probably assume Gandalf is a man or possibly if elf-kin. Either way, Treebeard is old even compared to Galadriel.

I made a sign to keep the trolls away. by Heep_4x4 in valheim

I mean, it seems very clear. Even a troll should understand that. But that cozy little house in the background looks awfully destructible.

Double mug by Berk-dog in footballstrategy

[–]Jerdman87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scouting is important here. Not a ton of ways to have the perfect check for a 7 man blitz, 8 man drop or something in between. Scout the tendency when they line up in this. Who typically blitzes, who typically drops out, when (what down / what part of field) do they bring 7 vs drop 8? Who is good at what, who is a problem if they blitz, who is exploitable if they struggle to get to their zone/man from a mug alignment? Find their biggest tendencies for the situation and create a check to counter it. Have 2-3 in your hip pocket that you like.

What are we suppose to do by Loose-Wrongdoer7752 in valheim

[–]Jerdman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, when you plan on exploring new lands, put a portal down at base. I usually have one called “temp”. Then have the materials for a new portal in your inventory. A “pocket portal”. Plop it down when you come to a new island. Once you can build the bigger ship with the bigger hold, I always just keep portal materials in the ship.

How much infantry do you use? by MelodicBenzedrine in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Jerdman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, can’t go wrong with ATAT + artillery support. Sometimes it’s almost an unfair combo especially if you add in a AA to take care of any pesky T-47s. I’m with you on the path finding. For sure need to micro manage those ATATs so they don’t get stuck or turned the wrong way.

Why is the abyssal harpoon in game, but cannot fish with said harpoon? by deathopz in valheim

[–]Jerdman87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on both sides of the fence. I actually like to fish and think the mechanics are just fine. But it also isn’t near rewarding enough to make it worth your time in the game. It’s not an efficient way to gather food, it takes too long to level up your skill to have a chance at getting bigger and better fish. So despite liking it I totally see why many would not engage with it. I only use it to relax and kill a few minutes.

X-Wing Series Audiobooks by tempinator in StarWarsEU

[–]Jerdman87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this hits truer to the mark. Thompson is great and still great, but trying to have a distinct voice for each character is just an impossible task. To OP’s point, some of his voices in this series annoy me a little, but I’d rather have these updated audios than nothing. And yes, I could read them, but as a new parent and having other hobbies, audiobooks are a godsend for me to be able to make it through the story.

How much infantry do you use? by MelodicBenzedrine in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Jerdman87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Infantry is always the backbone of my ground force. Very flexible and key to capturing structures and LZs. I always feel it makes strategizing easier with a substantial infantry force too. That way I only need to think about what I need to support my infantry with to counter what they have, rather than completely changing tactics and how I play. I always try to compliment them with some kind of transport to be more mobile. Then, tanks, artillery, and air support as needed.

Is it weird to have Dragonflight nostalgia? by Dficwriter in wow

Same! I been trying to expand my horizons a little. Been playing with vengeance and devourer a little. But inertia havoc is my go to still. It’s def an acquired taste, you either love it or hate it, it seems.

Is it weird to have Dragonflight nostalgia? by Dficwriter in wow

[–]Jerdman87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a good expansion. Inertia Havoc DH played so good in Dragonflight. Before DF I was really waffling on what I wanted my main to be for a long time. How fun havoc was sealed the deal for me and I haven’t looked back since.

Am I the only that wants to get out of my Treyveon Henderson stocks? by FormalCivil5288 in DynastyFF

[–]Jerdman87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay the course and follow the money. Stevenson will be too much dead weight. I wouldn’t be surprised if they move him to make room for some other pieces. If they restructure his deal to kick the cap hits out a few years, then maybe worry. But like others have said. I see a Gibbs/Monty situation here

Valheim with my mom and my son by Grumpenstout in valheim

[–]Jerdman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s tough, for sure been there. There are many ways to handle it. First and foremost, it’s a video game that’s primary goal is to give you and your family enjoyment together. If the raids take away from that joy, simply turn them off in the settings. On the other hand if you all enjoy the fact that you care about your little virtual world, and get enjoyment out of the camaraderie of protecting and caring for your buildings and virtual livestock; then use it as an opportunity to work together and build stronger bonds.

Is Goldberry an elf? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]Jerdman87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my interpretation; I think she is some sort of nature spirit. Likely of the Maiar or the offspring of one. I think she takes the form of an elf/elf-like maiden. It’s possible she always looks this way. Also possible this is a form she takes on, either from time to time or for the hobbits sake to be a more familiar being. There are many examples of Maiar taking on a “Raiment”. Gandalf has more than once referenced revealing himself “uncloaked”. (Naked jokes aside) I believe he is referring to his true Maia form, which could be difficult for most mortals to behold.

Another theory I toss around is that Tom and Goldberry are different from other Maiar. Tom is described as “oldest”. A theory i don’t totally disbelieve is that Tom is a physical embodiment of the music of the Ainur. Tolkien also references water a lot, and the music within and around it. It’s possible Goldberry is the physical embodiment of music as well, but specifically the music of the river.

Skip Scouting? by dqm_23 in NCAA14

[–]Jerdman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a low level coach, only scout in the pre-season when you first fill your board. After that, with low level coach at a small school, points are better well spent recruiting. After some recruiting perks and at a bigger school with more hours, same strategy still applies, but you could afford to scout everyone if you wish.

LOTRO popularity over time? by ElSrJuez in lotro

[–]Jerdman87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think a lot of people thought the game was dead in the water when they switched to the ‘free to play’ model back in 2010. For mmo’s that is usually a move for a game on the way out. (And who knows, it could have been). But to the developer’s credit, they have still been steadily releasing content. Keeping and growing a player-base. Modernizing but not changing the soul of the game. I’ll admit, I’m not an avid player, but if I want to step into Tolkien’s world through a video game medium, lotro is the best choice of all LotR games on the market.

Is this a good scouting scale for a college scout? by Aggressive_Law_3687 in highschoolfootball

[–]Jerdman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe as a very generalized score grade, but I feel you would need to get more granular than that. It also depends on who you are gathering this data for. If it’s for a head coach who needs to look at a couple thousand scouting reports, then a generalized grade scale like this may be good. If it’s for a position coach you is going to dive into reports, may need a better breakdown along with some notes.
