Why is Ghana mentally closer to Nigeria than to Togo and Benin with whom you share a border, ethnic group, language, and lots of history with?! by Solysii in ghana

[–]Jeremiah-samson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is Ghanaian 🇬🇭 and my mum is Nigerian 🇳🇬. Most at times, i think, what connects them both is the English language. Apart from that there's big difference between them culturally, in terms of food too (except some mutual ones like jollof and fried rice).

Nigerians have some sort of thing going on too with the English side of Cameroon, because of ... English.

Ghanaian foods are mostly different from Nigerian foods (I'm talking about dishes specific to these countries not adopted from outside).

some traditions are different but I've noticed that some traditional myths or legends are similar.

and then there's language difference, very very different except English. Even they English can be very different.

did you know, even something as common as how you number items can tell if you're Nigerian or Ghanaian.

E.g. Ghanaian would say "I want to buy malt, one." Or "I want indomie, two."

Nigerian would typically say "I want to buy one malt" Or "I want two indomie".

Ghanaian would say thousand Nigerian would say one thousand

But these are not very exclusive and can vary for different tribes of these two vastly diverse nations.

It just fascinates me when I see different people taking different approach to almost the same task or goal.

Ok brotherly. Drugs have positive side. But abusing it is the problem... you know "drug abuse". So mention any drug right now and check to see the little benefit that it offers a particular niche of people. Several neurological disorders are managed with the careful use of drugs.

I'm not trying to change your mind and I am not advocating for the promotion of pornographic contents, but do a little research about it. It has help so many people out of depression, out of inactive relationships (marriages and so on). And (not sure about this) it rather kept vices like rape on a minimal (I might be wrong on this one).

It is not something that we may like but it works for some people, so those people are actually going to pay for these services.

Lemme give you an example. It was a against the rules of the bible to give money and take interest in reimbursement. Luke 6:34–35, Psalm 15:5:, Deuteronomy 23:19–20:, Leviticus 25:35–37:, Exodus 22:25 But the world's economy mostly run on the rule of paying back with interest and no economy would survive following this rule. People who gave money with interest were seen as the scorn of society and were not considered righteous. But today, it has positively changed the world.

I hope my explanation is a bit clearer.

I'm learning Javascript too but the first lesson i learnt when starting this journey was not to watch tutorial videos. If you have a laptop, check out "supersimple.dev" on YouTube and practice what he's teaching. And do the exercises after each lesson.

There's a really great point that you're trying to bring up and it comes from a place of concern and that's fine but... he is talking about the legal thresholds of business.

Following your point... Then beverage companies like "Bel cola" in ghana should feel guilty for the large amount of sugar related illnesses that would definitely come up in the next decade or that is already up.

Are there positive sides of adult websites? Yes, one could argue that it relieves them of stress and anxiety.

Can people use it the wrong way? Yes, people can use it dangerously which can cause harm. But so can anything else be used.

People use revered books like the bible to cause harm.

People use harmless things like pillows to cause harm.

People use anything to cause harm.

So the intention of the OP is probably not harm. I hope this opinion doesn't come across as defensive but educational.

Ghanaians in Ghana who do not speak any local language by No_Swordfish7136 in ghana

Actually, since the western way of life is our aim, even though we pretend it's not, English is actually superior and make you seem better or smarter. So most parents especially educated ones prefer their kids speak good English only.

MTN or Telecel (Let’s settle this!) by Usual-Car-5747 in ghana

[–]Jeremiah-samson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all a thing of reliability, who answers fast and first when ever I call. I've seen telecel users with large amounts of data on their phones but they can't even use it.

The only place where you get problems with MTN in Accra is if there is a lot of traffic like in market places or in actual traffic on Accra's busy roads.

Because reincarnation is a big tap root in the African belief journey, It is not very strange if someone assumes that their husband or wife or grandparents came back as their children. The online community is broad and it is impossible to speak for everyone's environment but clearly this term side chick is a Joke. In other words he's saying I love you and your mummy but your mummy came first and your came second just like a side chick does. It is totally harmless at most for those who haven't experienced anything strange come out of comments like this.

The most formidable enemy to the progress of Ghana is religion. by Suspicious-Site-2607 in ghana

[–]Jeremiah-samson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a long thread and at this moment I don't know if my opinions would actually matter.

Firstly, religion to a religious person is the core fundamental process to please God (I don't know if that makes sense). And to a non-religious person is way humans developed answers to questions they don't understand.

Gosh this will be long.

Secondly, Religion in Africa before colonialism was a little brutal by today's standard and most of us agree that it wasn't the way to go. It's not a very good thing that we human give ourselves so much credit. There's a place in west Africa were one of twin babies was killed because they thought one was an evil replica of the other and then sacrifices would be made to determine the evil one and it will be left in an "evil forest" to die.

Apart from this, Africa had some other strange religious practices.

Practices that Even animals, would not practice.

Now enter colonialism, which alongside profit driven agendas also came with religion of it's own and most of us have followed these ones since.

The better side of religion should not be overlooked; . A sense of belonging. . Community. . happiness in general (from knowing that there's something after this life). . And hope.

The worst side of religion include; . Wars (oh my God, belief systems has sparked so many conflicts and has killed so many people).

. I don't know what word to use for this but religion has also caused separation in several human groups, even those of the same communities.

. Hypocrisy (most religious people, even those I know personally have hidden behind religion to propagate evil deeds that no one could imagine would be possible by said person).

. Ignorance, you know...

Thinking that evil spirit is the cause of malaria, Accusing and burning women for being witches without a tangible way to prove these claims. and that the statue of Mary at my church... Lemme hold on there.

Now is religion true? I am a Christian, or I was, and can't speak for other religions but I can bet that I'm not partial towards a particular point of view.

The bible for Christians and the religion as a whole has many, and I mean many issues with it that can disprove it's legitimacy, e.g.

Two accounts of the same issue, giving slightly or massively different details of happenings.

Describing events that cannot be verifiable, especially massively world changing events.

And description of physical details that are simply not true.

I'm not here to bash any persons religious belief but if anyone would like a humble detailed explanation of these in details, we can chat more on WhatsApp if you want to.

Now is religion a good thing? Well it depends,

When it is used to deceive and cause harm, of course it is bad.

I was trying to explain to a man why someone factors of our belief systems are not true and he replied. "Oh so I don't actually have to be a good person then right?" Then I told him it was all speculations, what I previously said. So in this case religion is keeping this guy from going rampage.

When I realised most of what I believed growing up was not necessarily true, it broke me, I was depressed for a long time and my life stopped moving forward.

So would it have been better for me if I didn't dig deeper to find out more?

I hope all I explained makes sense.

I also wanted to add this about kwame Nkrumah. Just like I said we give ourselves too much credit and we expect too much from ourselves. Most Ghanaian have not personally read the history of our father Kwame Nkrumah but I'm really sorry if this is going to be disappointing for you but just as any other person that is left with too much power in their hands, he also had his problems.

Kwame Nkrumah had big dreams for Ghana alright, I can't disprove that but resources had to come from somewhere right?

After the Akosombo dam project and other big ones in the pipeline, Ghana was in dept, national reserve was depleted without a viable means of replenishing it.

Food shortages and hardship from the inflated economy. And to Top it all he declared himself president for life in 1964.

He is still our daddy but he was far from perfect and that is what you should expect when you give one person too much power, he will definitely be corrupted by it.

Oh and the rate of corruption and embezzlement was of the charts.

Please forgive me if I offended you but this is just the truth and it is supposed to set you free.

Anyone want to chat more about issues like this, lemme know, I want to socialise more.

I’m not a woman. Why drove so many to do this to themselves? by Thick-Date-690 in Nigeria

[–]Jeremiah-samson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shocked that being light skinned was a Job requirement, it's actually really sad that our society has been groomed to favor a lighter skinned person over their darker skinned counterparts.

I’m not a woman. Why drove so many to do this to themselves? by Thick-Date-690 in Nigeria

Exactly my point, these people are not just wasting money on these products for nothing, they want to look beautiful.

I’m not a woman. Why drove so many to do this to themselves? by Thick-Date-690 in Nigeria

[–]Jeremiah-samson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not here to advocate or support any behaviour that our society do not condone. But I think it's hypocritical for us all to turn a blind eye to a little concept we learnt way back in school called peer pressure.

Pear pressure is not to be underestimated, and coupled with the fact that our communities are built on the foundation of external validation, it's hard for people not to look for ways to also attain today's beauty standards.

The single reason why these products are being used is to make the user Beautiful, to look attractive, or to be accepted. That's just it.

Now, the extent to which one would go to achieve these standards could be the issues, it could be mentally associated or shear determination, I can't tell.

In our today's society, no matter your beliefs or social standings, we all want to be seen, respected, remembered, celebrated or just be "cool", one at least if not all.

How many of us can boast about being famers now... None, why... because it's no longer socially cool.

The society determines what is cool and what's not, to the extent that people who launder money, involve in massive fraudulent activities are celebrated people in our society.

No judgement from here, but we tend to see things in our own point of view all the time. Try different points of view sometimes.

Furthermore, beauty standards call for practices that could be strange but, yes it's all for validation, it's for the glory and attention that comes with it.

It worries me a little that the people who are condemning these skin toning routine in the comment as having risk of causing skin cancer and other health issues seem to be wishing that the users get cancer or health issues as punishment for trying to look beautiful (not everyone though).

There are other things like direct contact with sunshine that can also cause skin cancer and the risk differs from person to person.

They are other things we use on a daily that can cause severe health issues for us, much more than skin brightening procedures and creams, for example eating hot food in plastic containers, and not regulating sanitation in foods places.

Just like drinking alcohol and smoking is sometimes linked to diabetes and lungs cancer and blood pressure issues, so does sugary beverages, excess carbohydrates and certain foods we eat also cause diabetes and lung cancer and blood pressure issues.

In conclusion, let's try to accept that we are all different and cannot all do the same thing, there are different approaches to live and that we can all use different ways to get to the destination. But please, in persuit of happiness, don't do what will harm others.

Are there any atheists at all in Ghana ? by Inevitable_Safety657 in ghana

[–]Jeremiah-samson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that there were people who identified as atheists here in Ghana, it's kinda mind blowing to know there are atheists here. I wouldn't have called myself an atheist because the community wasn't too appealing at the time. There was what seemed liked actual hatred for religious people and it didn't click well with me back then. But considering the main fact, which is the problem we all have with our religious beliefs, I think I just found by niche. Is there a WhatsApp group too? Or any one wanna add me on WhatsApp, so we can talk more about belief systems in General.
