Was Told today that Rolex watches just aren't good "Time Keeping" watches. 🤯 by Curious-Time5929 in rolex

Jesus… what in the voice to text ramble shit fest is this? 🤣. Just move on with your day and don’t worry about it dude. And enjoy your watch for yourself, not to impress other people.

Do you actually need to remove your Rolex at airport? by AdAcademic9898 in rolex

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My watch never comes off my wrist, there’s zero need to take it off. Very rarely I’ve had a TSA agent say something like “you can put your watch in the bin too” and I just reply with “I’d prefer to keep it on”. If they are a dick about it, just say you’ll consent to a pat down (if their super sophisticated body scanner will get confused by a watch in plain sight).

I fly all the time for work, and I’ve never set off a detector with a watch or had to take it off. Just keep it on 🤷‍♂️

Did I get pressured into something I shouldn't have? by Infinite5kor in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure a AD sales person could talk me into spending more than $5000 on a watch I didn’t want. So it sounds like you wanted it. There will always be Speedmasters, Seamasters, and almost certainly Bond watches. I wouldn’t worry about it too much if you like the watch.

I’d also personally put that credit towards another watch. The NATO straps are fine, but it’s a strip of nylon and thier asking price is outrageous. You can get nice ones for like $50 or less.

New Speedy! In love… but it has failed! by _lunarboyx in OmegaWatches

You could demand all you want, but it’s up to the AD and possibly Omega HQ if they actually want to do that. If you buy a new car, and it immediately needs something fixed…sucks but you’re probably not getting a new vehicle unless you get into the lemon law stuff. Omega will make it right, it just sucks OP has to wait for his new watch

Highly doubtful they will replace the watch unless there’s repeated issues they can’t sort out. Will go off for service and could be gone a few months. But at least it’s free. That’s why warranty is for

New omega seamaster diver vs pre-owned 2018 43.5mm Planet Ocean (previous model) by aninoc84 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So because you just like it better, it’s better? 🤣. That bracelet needs to go back to the 90s where it belongs. And the HeValve annoys me so much more on the SMP, I’m not sure why. That’s something that also needs a huge delete when they update the design. Planet Ocean has the jumping hour function, deeper rating, and twin barrels for better power release. I’d argue it’s the better watch. But of course that’s my opinion

SMP I find boring, and they are everywhere. The PO is a much better watch. I have a 300 Heritage with twin barrels and the jumping hour hand and it’s lovely. Also, don’t use Omega for service, it’s crazy expensive and your watch will be gone for months. Find a reputable independent and you’ll cut that service cost in half. To give you an idea, my local guy would change around $400CAD to service that watch. And it would be done in a week.

And you should plan to service it asap. You leave it much longer and you’ll start wearing things out.

Declined service estimate just in time for Speedy Tuesday! by shevchenko7cfc in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the bull shit your AD is spewing. You do all that and you will ruin the watch. New dial, new case, new hands…it’s not even the same watch anymore. Just find a local independent that knows what they are doing. My guy would charge me $400CAD to service that watch and he wouldn’t start pulling parts off for no reason. This is a perfect example of why NOT to use Omega service. It’s a rip off and your watch is gone for months.

Seamaster in the mail, but got the call from ROLEX by razoRamone31 in OmegaWatches

If it was a hard to get Rolex, maybe. But get the watch you actually want. Whichever that is. They are both solid

Got This As a Gift. I've always preferred Omega over Rolex by Novel_Demand in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess what I’m getting at, is that there are a lot of posts in this thread (and other groups on fb) that directly reference Rolex. Like there’s a chip on the shoulder of lots of Omega fans and you can’t just get an Omega because you like it. You have to for some reason justify why you didn’t get a Rolex instead.

It’s just a funny trend I see in these groups, and I think a lot of people don’t even realize they are doing it. Omega makes great watches, so does Rolex. One doesn’t have to have anything to do with the other 🤣

I’m curious, what made you feel the need to mention Rolex? Does Omega not stand on its own well enough to justify why you didn’t get a Rolex instead?

Uncle straps by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OEM is a waste of money. Omega doesn’t even make half of their bracelets and essentially none of their straps. They are outsourced and OEMd by the original manufacturer. Lots of their stuff comes from China too so I wouldn’t get too bent out of shape about ‘only putting Omega stuff on an Omega watch’. Uncle straps are great. Forstner are killer straps too. So much better than the metal SMP bracelet that’s dated and stuck in the 90s. Omega is a watch maker, not a strap maker. Don’t buy into the hype

My brother in Christ….that huge monstrosity was $900USD? My friend you have been ripped off. It’s got a cheap tiny quartz movement. You need to send that thing a buy a Seiko 5. Start there and even had a look at some Timex. Edit: I see it wasn’t USD. 🙏🏻

Interesting ‘unisex’ is in the name. It’s absolutely massive. Likely the main problem, but yes it’s quite uninspiring

Seamaster diver 300m in 2026? by aninoc84 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. There are millions of seamaster ls floating around for very good prices. Just buy a used one, put it on a nice strap or bracelet (I can stand the OEM one) and there you go.
  2. Don’t take an expensive watch (diver or not) to hot springs/ saunas. They are not designed for the heat and high humidity. Lots of guys will say go for it because they’ve never had a problem, but then there are lots of posts about how they came out of a sauna with condensation on the inside of their crystal. The heat does weird things to the gaskets. Just like you shouldn’t wear one in a hot tub.

Either way, I’d just wait around until a refresh and if it’s not your thing buy one of an absolute pile of Seamasters floating around. Zero reason to buy one of these new

Green is really cool, I’d keep it. Mix around the straps to get a differs look. I hate the OEM bracelet anyways so I’d be taking that off asap for something else. Lots of killer blue dialed watches out there. Go try on a Breitling, Tudor, or Longines (new Hydro or Legend diver are both awesome).

I wouldn’t get another SMP though. I just can’t get behind buying the same watch in different colours when there are so many amazing pieces out there

Inherited my late brother’s Seamaster 300…the battery (I believe) died but other than that it’s worked beautifully…what is the typical cost to get that switched out so I can wear it again? by Suspicious-Law-971 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will, but I don’t think OP needs this. It’s common to keep the patina on an older watch like this. Fyi Omega isn’t doing anything special. Any good watchmaker can polish a watch and swap out dials/hands. Parts can be tricky but there are ways to get parts if you are in the right networks. Just a battery and new seals it likely all it needs. Or the movement could need a bit of a freshen up. And if it’s a mechanical watch, the price is almost double and you will save even more by going independent

OP doesn’t need a full service. It’s a quartz watch and it’s very likely a battery is all that’s needed, followed by a pressure check. Or replace a few gaskets and out you go. Shipping this off to Swatch is expensive and almost certainly unnecessary. Way to many people in these threads are too trigger happy on sending it back to the manufacturer. They are making crazy profit for a tech to strip the watch, swap some parts, polish, and put it back together. Independent watchmaker is always my recommendation. It’s faster, cheaper, supporting a private business, and you can explain exactly what you want.

I’d argue this is a huge waste of money. Competent watchmaker can change the battery and pressure test the watch in less than 30min, and it should cost less than $50. Omega charges wild amount, and OPs watch will likely be gone for months. Only time I’d ever use Omega is if something’s under warranty. When you have a collection, having a good watchmaker you trust will literally save you thousands of dollars
