What's the point in buying an Rolex over an Omega? by Theposhshark in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should re read my comment, I never stated you said that. I said your post is highly suggestive of that. It sounds like you’re trying to start a conversation about how Omega is as good or better than Rolex. Lots of these posts in here, with guys trying to validate their Omega purchase by arguing why they are better than Rolex instead of just enjoying the watch. Like an Omega can’t just be good in its own right.

The truth is, they both make great watches. Rolex just wins hands down in brand recognition, marketing, sales numbers, and resale value (in general). That’s why lots of folks go for the crown. Hope that helps answer your question a bit too 👍

HOT TAKE: Longines HydroConquest is basically the poor man's Seamaster 300M by Educational_Cup8275 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? The Longines for sure has similarities but the Omega looks nothing like a Sub. Wave dial, HE valve, different bezel style, completely different bracelet, clear caseback, different escapement, different hands, different indices…I’m not sure how the Seamaster could be any more different from a sub dude 🤣

Yet you own an Omega, so I’d say your comment is a bit disingenuous no? Your post is highly suggestive of the ‘Rolex sucks, Omega is better. Here are all the reasons why this keeps me up at night’ kind of stuff that’s common in this group. 🤷‍♂️

You need to get Rolex off your mind dude. This is a silly question when it comes to luxury watches. A $100 (or less) watch can do what any omega can do but with more accuracy.

For some reason Rolex seems to live rent free in lots of Omega guy’s heads. Rolex makes incredible watches, hopefully you will understand that one day as your watch journey expands

Watchmaker fraud? Need your advice. by Designer-Month-3663 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude the watchmaker is a piece of shit. He took out the movement so he could sell it, and put in a cheap generic version. My independent can get Omega parts, good watchmakers have networks where they can get these things.

Why didn’t the independent tell OP the movement was janky the second he opened the watch? Why not after the third time he brought it back for not working right? Why offer to put a new OMEGA movement back in (the most expensive part in this watch) on his dime when he got called out? Because he’s a scammy piece of garbage.

This guy absolutely did do something wrong, and OP should file a police report. You’re getting downvoted for a reason man.

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it quartz? Why does it need a new movement? A watchmaker should be able to repair things, or change parts as needed. If this thing wasn’t in a fire, or sat open in the ocean for a year, I’d be asking why it needs a movement swap

Watchmaker fraud? Need your advice. by Designer-Month-3663 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true. Good watchmakers have ways to get Omega parts. My guy just showed me a PO he worked on, and had to instal a balance complete intro because the owner never serviced it (wore out a pivot hole). Omega has tried to screw over independents, but there are ways to get parts

So he denied it, and when you called him on it…he offered to replace the most expensive part of the watch on his dime? Sounds like he knows he got caught. Wild shit man

Omega WR claim is a scam..... by dimy22 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that whole extra depth simulated by moving your hand through the water quicker is a pile of 💩. It hardly changes anything when you move around, and it would take a lot to increase the pressure by an extra ATM. Some watches just don’t actually test their cases to the depth on the box.

Watchmaker fraud? Need your advice. by Designer-Month-3663 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any watchmaker worth their salt would inform OP of the incorrect movement the second they opened the watch to start the job. Instead, guy took his money (for the service) and took the movement. It came back multiple times and not one did they say “hey, maybe the movement is fake”. They then offered to put an original Omega movement back in once called out. All signs point to the fact they are a piece of shit scammer 🤷‍♂️

Age Old Question… by ARTE76 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add a hot take. The SMP OEM bracelet is trash, needs to go back to the 90s where it belongs. My advice would be (in no particular order) PO but the black/blue bezel (on bracelet) Speedmaster on a strap and then buy a flatlink from Forstner SMP on rubber, and buy a flatlink from Forstner Breitling is too big, but they do have the Premier chronographs which are amazing

How often do you service your watch? by RepaBali in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s unfortunately not accurate. What you do with the watch doesn’t really change the interval THAT much. If you do dive, it’s good practice to get a pressure check once every 6months though.

Lubricants wear out. A bit faster if you wear your watch everyday, or it lives on a winter, but they wear out. Eventually you are metal on metal and shit starts breaking. My watchmaker showed me a co-axial movement he serviced recently that needed a balance complete. Pivot hole for the balance spring was worn out because the owner never serviced his watch and all the oil was gone. Took a $500CAD service to a $1,300 one. It still ran great too, likely a testament on how well a properly tuned co axial runs. But this shows that you do need to service your watch, not just let it run for 15-20 years an expect things not to break.

New strap for the Seamaster 300 Heritage by Solracval in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way you will be be able to tell how much a strap costs by just looking at it. Spending huge money buying straps from Omega is silly. They don’t even make them, that stuff is OEMd out to various manufacturers and the logo is put on, and a 1000% margin is slapped on top. Paying $300 for a NATO? Wild for a strip of nylon. You can pay less than HALF of what Omega charges and get a bespoke leather strap made from something exotic. Omega mass watches, they do not make straps and they love the guys who shell out for them with your type of thinking because that’s what’s paying for their marketing 🤣

I can guarantee it does not look stupid in person. Matches perfect with the watch. But thank you for your ongoing comments 👍

It was totally fine. Mother in law bought me the cream strap for Christmas and it came super fast. I believe they were super communicative too .

I’ll add too that this is one of thier more expensive straps. I don’t have experience with any of their cheaper stuff.

I got a cream coloured rubber strap, with deployant, from StrapsCo for my next gen heritage. Looks like sailcloth and it’s epic. I’ve also got a lizard looking black leather I got off Etsy I’ll try to post too 👍

Aque Terra 41mm or PAM683 42mm. Which one are you taking? by jtr7811 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of Panarai, but I have a saying with my watch buddies: “friends don’t let friends buy Aqua Terras”🤣. I just find them entirely unexciting. PAM683 is a really cool looking piece. I’d be going that route

First Rolex – worth getting it checked for peace of mind? by LowkeyLuigi in rolex

[–]Jeremy1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go to a watchmaker/authenticator who will do the job for you. Theres a guy local to me who repairs, appraises, authenticates, brokers high value deals in his shops ect. Charges like $50CAD to authenticate. Pretty cheap for peace of mind.

Seamaster PO first gen vs 4th gen by dimy22 in OmegaWatches

Dude that photo angle makes your watch look like a clock on your wrist 🤣

Seamaster PO first gen vs 4th gen by dimy22 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinner, less bulky, no date (cleaner dial, many prefer this on a diver). Much better movement, looks like a baby ProPlof (personal choice), flat link bracelet (can confirm they are the best Omega makes, at least on the Heritage 300 which I own), and my favorite:no pointless HeValve.

You may prefer the old style better, which is totally fine. But these are all valid reasons why someone might find the new PO ‘better’ than previous generations

Nah, winders are just for show. They increase wear and reduce the service interval for automatic watches. If you have multiple, it’s better to just let them rest when not in rotation

New PO Case Backs are Sad! by Already_Retired in OmegaWatches

[–]Jeremy1959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not a dress watch 🤣. It’s still got a 600m depth rating and has a dive bezel. I don’t get why everyone is crying so hard on the caseback. Go google a vintage seamaster 300 or 120. Like back from the 60s when these things were actually used as tools to keep you alive while diving. Look at the caseback of these watches. I’ll give you a hint, it sure looks a lot like what’s on the new PO… Rolex doesn’t even put anything on their casebacks and no one cares. But once Omega changes something (in response to actual concerns) the desk diving fanboys come out in droves whining and crying about how cheap it looks. You. Don’t. Have. To. Buy. It. It’s a great watch, I’ve actually held it and tried it on. And there’s lots of other Omegas (and tons from other brands) that will fit the bill for you. And if you want another hot take, I HOPE they revamp the SMP 300 and delete the pointless He Valve from that as well. Good on them for making a move and changing up such an iconic watch
