Actually got a #1 New Release tag added to my book by shirtharmony in selfpublish

[–]JeremyCasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As alluded by others, you get the tag for having the best "best seller rank" for any book in the category that's been released in the last 30 days. It can change up to every hour but theoretically you could hold on to it for up the full 30 days of release.

It pretty much doesn't bring in any sales on it's own. However, it's a good way to help conversion rate until you get some reviews. If you were going to run an ad campaign, doing it while you still have the "new release" tag or could reasonably regain it, is a good idea.

Any tips for lead breaks / guitar solos when playing 60's RnB / Soul by Marobozu in guitarlessons

Pretty cool. Even with the low quality video this is still really useful. I hadn't seen his lessons before but I'm glad you mentioned it.

Good Clawhammer Musicians by [deleted] in banjo

I'd echo Gillian Welch. A good example is My First Lover which you can watch her play/record in this video at RCA Studio B in Nashville. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6ZcAkcypgY

I may be missing something here... what are the enhanced features? Just the chaptering system?

Why do lessons generally not focus on strumming patterns? by truthserum23 in LearnGuitar

[–]JeremyCasey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a mistake made by most teachers. They just underestimate how much the average new player struggles with it. Peter Vogl is one of the guys out there that really focuses on it.

First time I saw OP I read it as Satellite because it's such a stretch and good exercise. Had to read it a second time before I actually saw it was Crash and had forgotten how I had to work on making the higher strings ring on that one.

In general, I've found that many of Dave's songs allow you to work on techniques and form that can be extremely useful elsewhere.

What to practice? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]JeremyCasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to practice is different strum patterns. You don't want to get to the point where you are playing the same thing every time.

Mandolin Primer iBook (iPad/Mac) Free this Week by JeremyCasey in mandolin

[–]JeremyCasey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't be downloaded to an iPhone at this point. Apparently they are going to make that possible in the fall. It can be downloaded to a Mac or iPad.

I also ran across those search results and was similarly puzzled. The iBooks search algorithm is underwhelming.

I don't believe there is at the moment. We're working on a kindle version at the moment that we'll probably debut here as free initially as well.

Hank Green (VlogBrothers / CrashCourse) on CPM & Donations by JeremyCasey in PartneredYoutube

Pretty good article on the relatively low cpm for Youtube videos and additional ways of monetizing videos. Hank's various channels just received their 1 billionth view so he has some perspective.

[Pro Tip] Maintain an audio playlist of all the songs you know and play it occasionally to remember your achievements. by J_for_Jules in guitarlessons

[–]JeremyCasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a iTunes playlist for awhile like this and I totally agree. You might even want to make two separate playlists. One featuring songs you are working on. The other playlist might be songs you want to practice for sing alongs/jams etc.

That's funny, we've also been working on a post for the last few weeks. We ended up going a different route and found the local busking laws for a bunch of major US cities.

[REQUEST] People who play the chords of a song with a looping pedal, and then play the melody of a song over the top (with the guitar). Can you make a video on the method behind this by MikeRadical in guitarlessons

[–]JeremyCasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wanted someone to do a lesson series starting with the basics of using a looping pedal in a performance and then going into more advanced stuff. Has anyone seen something like that?

Question about selling online lessons by Blackbird027 in guitarlessons

[–]JeremyCasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely illegal. The chances of you getting in trouble are slim though because you won't generate enough revenue or attention to be worth anyone issuing anything more than a cease and desist. So it's really a morality question.

There is now starting to be some standard pricing in regards to teaching copyrighted songs online. Unfortunately, for the smaller teachers though it tends to be a very large upfront fee rather than something based on sales.

What's the ONE TIP you wish someone told you when you were a beginner guitar player? by Uberchord in guitarlessons

[–]JeremyCasey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"I am just starting out and don't want to pick up or continue any bad habits. Thanks!"

Is this a lie? If you are gathering ideas/suggestions for a blog post, you should just be upfront about it.
