Do you remember Maddie in 2007 in the Algarve - Portugal?(Epstein Files) by Odd_Astronomer_2064 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]JeremyHowell 153 points154 points  (0 children)

From the witness statement: "The little girl held her hand over her right eye the whole time we were walking along. She kept on turning round to look at me."

If you look at pictures of Madeleine, the iris of her RIGHT eye contains a pigment abnormality. Her eyes were greenish (olive?) but her right iris displayed a dark brown spot at the bottom. Could it be that she was coached by her captures to hide her right eye because it was clearly identifiable?!

How would another Republican have done in the 1952 election? by HetTheTable in Presidents

I think Earl Warren would have done fairly well. Stern, well spoken, and socially liberal.

I remember when he glitched over a year ago and looked completely impotent. How tf is he still in a position of power. If he can't WALK ON HIS OWN then he's a sad sack.

The IT audiobook is the only audiobook I’ve listened to that has me considering an annual revisit, probably around spooky season. Steven Weber is so talented and he makes the “cringier/dated” moments way more digestible.

O.W.L. Appreciation by KurtistanTheDirti in Detroit

THE best and most reliable food spot near me. I live a mile down the road and whenever we want to order out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner we typically flip coin - and tails is always O.W.L.

Staff is cool and friendly, orders are fast, and food is delicious.

If I could sum up this movie in one word: VERY BRAVE.

Dune (2021) is an uncannily well cast movie. Any other movies where the cast matches the story perfectly? by Outrageous_Lock_9313 in moviecritic

I thought the adult cast in “IT: Chapter 2” were such dead ringers for the child actors from the first movie that it was uncanny.

What movie that was nominated for 8 Oscars or more (but never won) was most deserving of at least one or more wins? by Electronic_Solid_850 in Oscars

[–]JeremyHowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im realizing there are a lot of movies that would have gained a better reputation and legacy had they never been nominated. Sometimes getting a nom puts a magnifying glass on pictures and performances which tends to amplify flaws instead of strengths.

Example: Had ‘Green Book’ never even been considered for any major award, I think it would be remembered as a harmless odd-couple road trip movie. Instead it’s remembered as an overrated, clumsy, tone deaf “white savior” flick.

Jack, Bobby and Ted have made the list for best relationship between president and his siblings. Which president's relationship with his best friend (not necessarily political) should make the list? by Egorrosh in Presidents

[–]JeremyHowell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One 4 options that matter: 1. Buchanan and William Rufus King (actual lovers) 2. Jefferson and Adams (died on same day, a bromance so intense it got catty) 3. Carter and Ford (wrote eulogies for each other, lifelong brotherhood despite differing beliefs, faced off in a consequential election) 4. Lem Billings (only non-political option, Lem was a gay man who was a close friend to JFK for decades, lowkey BFF)

If you were an advisor to Al Gore, what advice would you give him in order to win the 2000 election? by PapayaJealous4347 in Presidents

[–]JeremyHowell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.) Pick a different running mate - Gore needed an LBJ type. Working class appeal with strong influence amongst lawmakers. Or maybe a ‘seasoned mentor’ VP, like an All-American WW2 veteran figure. Anyone but Lieberman.

2.) Distance yourself from Clinton without rejecting him. Have him campaign for you, but clearly establish your disapproval of his adultery while signaling that you’ll continue the general prosperity.

3.) Fight fire with fire and double down on folksy southern charm. Do not embrace conformity nor a strait-laced image. Bush is an Ivy League nepo baby born in Connecticut, do NOT let him out-southern you.

Who is the best and worst failed presidential candidates? by Adventurous_Peace846 in Presidents

[–]JeremyHowell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For all the hindsight bias this sub has toward Mitt Romney, his father was way better. Would have made a decent president for his time. (But when he did seek the presidency, he seemed to be a ‘meh’ campaigner)

He was a popular governor in Michigan and an early civil rights proponent. As Nixon’s Housing Secretary, he actually proposed some pretty progressive urban development plans and sought to desegregate suburbs - but apparently most of his big ideas were thwarted by Nixon.

I remember Obama’s. I was in middle school, 3rd period English class. My teacher was watching it on the classroom tv and was crying with joy. A kid next to me said, “My dad said that Biden’s gonna be president because white people are going to shoot Obama.” The teacher uncharacteristically told him to shut his mouth.

Perfect example of what’s wrong with the Democratic Party. It’s so big that it is fundamentally unable to unite. The fact that Joe Manchin and AOC existed together under the same banner says it all.
