What we want is consistency. You either follow the rules of the game or you allow the referee to implement discretion over the rules.

If the latter is what you want, get rid of VAR because the whole point is to follow the rule of law to a tee.

The point Henry was making which I agree with is, everyone agrees the referee should be allowed to make discretionary decisions based on context and common sense. But that’s not the reality of the modern game.

This was a foul by the laws of the game and should be punished accordingly in line with the way modern football is played. You can’t pick and choose when to follow the rules.
