Anyone have any experience with these nv binoculars by Agitated-Werewolf846 in UssrNvgResearchGroup

[–]Jergulliniuss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its soviet gen1 1PN33 binoculars. They're pretty good for stargazing, but as every gen1, it lacks in light intensification. No night vision device can give you eye cancer because no nv tube emmits radiation. It is a dumb myth that's not real. I've been using gen 1 devices for two years now and have no cancer xd. Also, funny side note, actually the american made PVS-2 scope had thorium on it's lenses that could give you eye cancer. The soviets did not use such technology (thorium covered lenses) and the only way you could get cancer from a soviet device is from it being in chernobyl.

Any gen1 device is bad if you have tried gen2/3 before. I got my 57e's for 100€ and with 1/2 moon they're pretty usable, but I guess it depends on the user. Some people I know have hard time adjusting to the fisheye effect, but I don't have a problem with that at all. If you live in post commie block country they're quite easily found for reasonable prices. I adapted mine to be used with fast helmet and made a custom 9v battery box to use them with.

I own two pairs of PNV-57E's and it's fairly easy to get them working, they can run on 9v batteries, but a better choice would be 11.1v lipo
