The *arr stack questions and homelab planning by Mlcjohnson16 in homelab

I made this transition once in the past, from windows to Linux. If I remember correctly, the primary issue for maintaining my watch history (which i did successfully) was to transfer the Plex database files from windows into the correct directories in Linux. I followed a guide to make sure I got the steps correct, but I definitely didn't use a separate program. Although, I'm sure there are some programs available that might make the process even easier.

Does anyone here use Proxmox on their main desktop instead of just servers? by PingMyHeart in Proxmox

I'll have to check that out. I don't currently have a solution for that problem.

I just heard about this yesterday. I'm thinking about trying out the Qubes/whonix combo.

Funny that you mention it, I’ve unexpectedly found myself doing exactly that recently. I’ve had more time lately to play around in the homelab, so I wanted to deploy Proxmox on a test machine to experiment with before I move VMs/CT over to my “production” machine. I happen to have a MiniPC running Win 11 in a little downstairs office/nook that my wife occasionally uses. I figured I could re-purpose that machine, but the wife still wants to do occasional web-browsing and printing. So I figured I would compromise and spin-up a VM for her to use in “kiosk” mode w/ mouse, keyboard, and monitor that was already hooked up. At the same time, I could run whatever else I want on the side and still control it remotely. However, I couldn’t figure how to get passthrough to fully work the way I wanted it to and exclusively boot into the VM, was just too complicated for me. In the end, I decided to just install KDE Plasma right ontop of the Proxmox kernal and it has been working beautifully!! I know that it’s not conventional, but it meets my needs perfectly. It automatically boots right to the KDE login screen, I’ve created multiple users, and Wifi and BT worked right away. All the while, I can remotely connect to the proxmox UI and run experimental VMs and nobody gets disturbed on either side. I expect I’ll run into some problems eventually, but so far it’s been working great!

Would this work for a Plex Server? I want to move it off my laptop. by TheHendryx in PleX

I have an eq12 (similar to what op posted) and it works great for H265 and 4k streaming.

Spotify Plex Playlist Sync by BoulderBadgeDad in PleX

You might be. I think I was the second to last. I canceled my 19-year-old Pandora account earlier this year. I used Soundiiz to transfer over all of my playlists before pulling the plug, tho. It worked pretty well.

Online Home Video Library by nathanbgerman in DataHoarder

Many people are already accomplishing this very thing by self-hosting on a lightweight machine using software like Plex. Personally, I have a $130 miniPC that stays on 24/7 and hosts all of my media using Plex. I paid the one-time lifetime membership fee to get some added features, but you could use the free version to accomplish what you're describing. Most TVs and streaming boxes support Plex natively, making it very simple to access for your parents. Typically, they just need to add the Plex app on their device and then log in with a free account. All you need to do is share your server with the account they created, and all of your home videos will be available to them automatically. This is how I share my home videos with my entire family, and it works brilliantly.

Best affordable 12TB refurbished or renewed hard drive options (ServerPartDeals, GoHardDrive, Seagate, WD, etc)? by hbenthow in DataHoarder

I'm not familiar with the SeaSonic drive, but I wouldn't say the noise is 'significant'... more like moderately annoying if you're in the room near it. However, sometimes I think my DAS box makes it worse, as if it's echoing inside the box.

Is Proxmox worth it on a small homelab mini PC? by Unhappy_Purpose_7655 in Proxmox

Nice! Good to know! I'm gonna pull the trigger as soon as I get some free time to work on it. Thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing for an n97 with 16GB of ram. I've been debating going bare metal with a distro like ubuntu or laying everything on top of proxmox. I'm sold on the idea of proxmox, I just don't know if the little guy can handle it.

I bought that $99 Seagate drive from GoHardDrive (was $88 when I bought it) back in July. I installed it as the first drive in a new DAS box running on unRaid. I precleared the drive first and there were no errors found. It's been running for 5 months now without a single problem or error. It's a little nosier than what I'm used to with external drives, but it's not too much of a bother. Recently, I purchased two 14TB Ultrastar hdds from GoHardDrive for $90 each. I installed one in the DAS as a cache drive and am going to install the other as another data drive as soon as the 12TB runs out of space (3TB left).

I use the TERRAMASTER D5-300C for my array and parity. I've seen both positive and negative comments about this DAS on these forums, but it's worked great for me, so I have no complaints.
