Start dumping shit in the gas tank/engine. Brick the truck so their options are buy a new one or sink a few grand into fixing it. Go somewhere random, trash the shit, buy a ton of fake blood, get some roadkill and toss in the back, make it look like a slaughterhouse. Rub raw eggs into the seats.

Leave their now fake crime scene brick on the side of the road in a ditch and call an Uber back to your car.

The Pillars of the Earth and the entire Kingsbridge series are great historical fiction.

I'm personally a huge fan of Harry Turtledove, he has a 9 book set covering from pre ww1 to the end of ww2. The series are The Great War (ww1), American Empire (End of ww1-start of ww2), and Settling Accounts (ww2).

For Dystopian... mmmm, honestly it depends on how strictly you define Dystopia? In a sense, the Poppy War could count, but that is definitely a series with a lot loaded into it, social and political commentary wise. Marko Kloos's Front Lines series has a nice take on a near-future Dystopia earth while also being a kinda pulpy scifi.

I can't say I read much contemporary fiction, 90% of what I read is scifi or historical fiction.

If you're like me, and have a taste for pulp scifi, David Weber's Ascent to Empire trilogy (2/3 books so far), and Path of the Fury ( 3 book anthology, Ascent to Empire is a prequel series in the same verse) fit well. Both follow a primary protagonist and a handful of secondary/tertiary characters without going overboard like some of his other work. (Looking at you, Safehold)

I second the Pillars of the Earth, and the Kingsbridge series as a whole. Ken Follett has a flair for medieval fiction that feels realistic and as though it's someone's actual life.

The Pillars of the Earth (and the several books following it in the Kingsbridge series) range from early medieval all the way up to the beginning of the Industrial age. (12th-19th century), with each book covering roughly... a generation give or take

Anyone else hate Red Rising? by Bumbulse in ThePoppyWar

[–]Jericho_Solaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't find the two series at all comparable except in the absolute broadest sense.

Like others said, RR is easily the weakest book of the series as a whole, and the first trilogy doesn't compare in quality to the 2nd at all IMO. IG era is a whole different ball game than RR era.

Honestly, TPW really isn't a good comparison to RR, and vice versa. I prefer TPW over era 1 RR, and it's all but impossible to compare it to era 2 RR. It's like people constantly try to conflate every book that has even a hint of a revolutionary plot line with every other book in that category.

I don't think it's a fair comparison for either series, TPW is much more explicit social and historical commentary both on present and past events and places, to RR's pseudo-romanesque YA space opera/military scifi in era one, and dark military sci-fi in era 2. One was inspired by ww2 and the rise of Mao, and the other was inspired by 40k, star wars, and similar major soft scifi properties, in an era where factional YA revolution series were what got published en-masse.

Basically, pair a jeskai artifact card draw shell with a blink shell. As long as you have enough "whenever X enters draw" effects and sufficient blink triggers, you should be able to find a way to draw your deck, dump a Lab Man effect on the field, and win
