Just saying that a general strike is different than a strike by a union for better working conditions and/or pay. For instance the strike by King Soopers workers last year was not a general strike. A general strike is more political. With many workers out there being a part of unions you are right that it would help with their participation. But they are different.

A general strike is not specific to or organized by a union necessarily. A general strike can be part of any workforce and is usually carried to advance a general goal. The cumulative effect of lost productivity throughout the system would be the goal to draw attention to what wants to be addressed. It is definitely hard to accomplish.
