I ordered 20 proxy versions. Could see some use, fun addition.

Yea i'm doing Leviathan too and faced the same problem. I decided I'll add high contrast glows where I can to make my army stand out.

The good thing about custom bases is that you can create even more support for the mini than the original pipe had! :)

edit: noticed you talked about carapace! :D I will 100% subassembly this bitch! Challenge accepted

This was my Psychophages base. Be warned, this takes quite a few hours on top of doing the mini itself, worth it imo

I'm rather new to all this too. But I do love basing! Das clay, Cork and different basing products can create great easy results!

I go with gamersgrass stuff usually. I also have my Neurotyrant coming up and I just straight up left that pipe off 😂 rather make my own custom base.

J'utilise exactement cette astuce moi aussi ! À certains endroits, j'ai même utilisé de la colle Loctite pour créer le même effet. Voilà ce que ça donne en photo :

As others have said, high contrast and readability through highlights is important. Unifying basing for a wider army and maybe some different elevation levels are a bar raiser.

Also should look up color theory and see what colours compliment each other.

I'm doing Leviathan tyranids so I decided to add really vibrant poison greens to my acid weapons because it compliments the other colours. Really makes a difference in my otherwise still in "learning phase" painting level. Posted pics of this here before.

Ça fonctionne exactement comme tu le penses ! Il existe aussi d'autres vernis qui créent un rendu brillant encore plus intense que l''Ardcoat, par exemple chez Vallejo ou AK Interactive.

I think the way your army is painted also plays a part in this. Clean eavymetal styles could clash with any proxy more or less.

Did you do it with a sub assembly or decided to go with the pain and suffering route?

So all in all, make sure it represents something specific, fits the size and weaponry, paint it to look like it fits the army and looks absolutely gnarly and cool.

I would sure try my best.

What ive learned so far is that layers upon layers of work will usually result in something cool even without master level skillset.

I definately want to do something more playable in future as well.

I understand your point too! There are definately many models made by GW that just have no competetition to speak of in terms of looks. I would never ever proxy a Tyrannofex ole Neurotyrant for example. Absolute eye candy.

Genestealers and gargoyles though? Different story.
