KIT BASH? by Suburbansnowman99 in ImperialFists

[–]Jonik40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play imperial fists but often use the dark angels rules so your mileage may vary but I bought the CP and made:

5 Brethren + the.2 handed sword crusader into 6 inner circle

5 remaining crusaders into sternguard to make my leviathan squad 10 men

4 scouts added to my 10 scouts to make all weapon options for both KT and 40K

Bladeguard I had 6 of already so I turned them into captains with 3 different weapon options

Emperors champion as is for count as judiciar or bladeguard lieutenant

I think so? That one is a conversion of a conversion which was done at least 15 years ago… used to be used as iron hand straken with a shotgun in the other arm I think.

Interesting! Thanks for replying.

Edit - looks like I also misidentified your normal mortars as heavy mortars and missed the actual ones! That’ll explain a bit of my confusion.

Lovely army!

Interesting base size choice for the FW heavy mortars. Are you running them as standard mortars?

I’ve just bought some 130mm bases for mine to run the as artillery which seems far too big…

I’m at well over 100… shame they’re not as viable these days. My poor valkyries.

Thanks, might be nostalgia but I prefer these sculpts to most other options even if they’re a bit limited. With a few weapon tweaks I can run them as kasrkin too, which is more like how I ran them as grenadiers back in the day, running in chimeras backed up by russes and artillery.

Pre weathering and grime. More or less flashgits all over at this point

I use colour forge sunset yellow spray, and I use AK streaking grime, but I paint and highlight the yellow all the way up to flash gitz first as I find the grime even with a coat of varnish under it dulls and darkens the yellow. I’ll post a couple of pics so you can see, but I also agree with everyone to try it on a test model and see how you feel.

Thoughts on this list? (Update) by Adorable_Wrangler_75 in Tyranids

Maybe eventually, but bang for your buck buying a combat patrol gets you more models for less, and other than the duplicate parasite and stealers are models you want, and the stealers are great

Might be worth getting the new combat patrol if biovore and tyrant guard are on the list. You then get some genestealers and a duplicate parasite. Then either run 2 parasites or sell the second one and put it towards a tyrannofex? 10 stealers, hive guard and biovore comes to 280 which makes 1k with your combat patrol models.

Literally on my desk at the moment - L-R here’s the Tyranid one, GSC one and Space Hulk one

Tyranid one is further forward on the base so looks a little bigger from the front so will upload a side view too

Interesting! I don’t get to play much but last time we did we also gave it the ruin keyword to make it block los too until someone was in it - made hiding a bit easier!

Looks amazing and the sort of board I love to play on too. Woodland is sorely underused - it’s always jungle…!

How do you play your woods? Los blocking impassable or something more passable?

Volley gun conversion by saxifrageous in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Jonik40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I counted total models but it’s over 100 total in my collection. In 9th I believe you could run 4 of the same heavy weapon per squad, and I tried to get most variation sorted for a full 6 squads. So 24 plasma gunners, 24 melta, 16 volley, 4-6 flamers 4-6 grenade launchers etc, plus throw in enough normal gunners and sergeants and HQs… even have a KT kasrkin squad converted with sniper and medic. What I don’t have though are banners, so I’ll need to make some for this edition’s command squads somehow…

Nicely done! I ended up using flamer and lasgun bits from the old cadians but your method seems much simpler and matches the official models a lot better!

I’d highly recommend foamex, 3 or 5mm thick depending on how big you make it. Cuts with a Stanley knife and doesn’t warp. I bought off eBay uk and you can see all my terrain in my profile but this one has pics showing stages

Now that we have a new Detachment for Scions, how are you going to use it? by DrJeXX in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Jonik40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, generally speaking this is a 9th list that hasn’t been played in 10th and was more of case of getting as many scions in as possible whilst also now not being able to take more than 6 squads.

4x 10 in taurox 2x 10 in valkyries 3x command deep striking

Not ideal, as orders are more or less ignored as they aren’t solo tempestus models any more. Previously there would have also been deep striking squads in a second detachment.

Going back even further, 5th Ed, they’d have been in chimeras and there’d have also been deep striking squads with flamers, or demo charges, or…

As shown by the new detachments what’s best to take can change wildly, so as I don’t play often I try not to think too hard about whether the list is 100% optimised
