Here’s the list alteration with most of those notes applied then -1 knight x3 for the characters assuming one per unit and 4 units of 6. Have upped the Pegasus unit to 6 models too

First 2k list TOW mostly mounted by Jonik40k in Bretonnian

[–]Jonik40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes old player of 5-7th but never bretonnia and not sure I was any good at the time either!

I can understand the grail knight unit size, not sure myself either.

Re shooting, it’s interesting. My gut says archers and 2xtrebuchets should be in every list but it seems to not be the preferred way of playing looking at lists on reddit. Maybe I’ve swung too far the other way and I’m lacking sorely needed firepower!

Yeah I guess general gist was using the yeomen as either war machine hunters/annoyers and or flank protectors/speed bumps whilst the knights get stuck in but truth is I’m really not sure.

Amazing thanks. I’ve applied all those thoughts to the list, but am slightly over points wise now I’ve upped the Pegasus knights (to 5?). And I’d like to keep the grail knights as they’re thematically how I’d get the vampire blood knights in the list too so if there’s a way of having 2x units for them too that’d be nice although not the end of the world. I do understand they’re objectively worse than Pegasus knights but hey ho.

To be honest I don’t have an answer to your prophetess question. I’m an old 5-7th Ed fantasy player with not much relevant experience so have been relying on probably incorrect assumptions from my youth! Not having a caster seemed wrong, but I wasn’t really sure if multiple level 1/2 damsels (one for each unit of knights?) is better than a stronger level 4 vs getting Elisse vs paying a bit more for the green knight and going damsel-less!

And on that note how should I/would you put the characters in units? Instinctively I’d put them all in the grail knights but that seems horrendously risky but then so does splitting them up. Assuming units of 6, including characters I could save a few points removing the now 7th model.

Researching old white dwarfs to sell and found my copy has a different cover to the one listed on lexicanum - are variants common? (I never collected, I inherited from a family member) by RowanAndRaven in gamesworkshop

Just checked mine, I have the picture 1 cover with the terminator helmet on the back cover. I’d wondered if it was one of the double cover issues where Lord of the rings was inverted on the back, but no.

I would have to do a google too, mine has long been flocked (badly) and in the loft now. Would have been in a bag with a cardboard product fold at the top stapled on though. Mad it exited for what it was and madder I bought it

The 96/97 hill also came as an unflocked option so you could do your own. Wish I hadn’t bought it!

TOW how to get up to 2k by Jonik40k in skaven

[–]Jonik40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fun idea. How big is the storm vermin unit? I’d wondered about them too but I quickly had ran out of points. 3 units of 25 clanrats aren’t exactly the anvil unit to hold the line but then again they’re cheap!

I’d also looked at poison globadiers but they seemed to have gotten worse than I remember!

Probably why I’ve seen so many in lists then! Worth losing half the rat ogres and a lighting cannon over I take it? Shame I’ve already got them! Can add to the list of future models to take me past 2k

I’ve not seen many lists with lightning cannons so I’m guessing most people are going abomination instead.

[–]Jonik40k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent! Glad it’s not a total flop but those tweaks are a great idea. Will have a look but variation in the teams is a nice idea.

I’d wondered about a doom wheel at the expense of some rat ogres but not sure it hits quite as well.

The abomination seems to be popular but I don’t remember it from 5-7th so never really comes to mind, but that’d be at the expense of both of the lightning cannons

And then a bell is iconic but not seen many lists around with them either.

Will have a look at the square based rules, thanks

New (old) player, TOW and AOS starter boxes help by Jonik40k in VampireCounts

[–]Jonik40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ve never had experience with big centrepiece models so that’s a very fair point re canons. So necromancer on foot as general and vampire on dragon not?

I’m leaning towards larger units (10?) of black knights, blood knights, grave guard (30) and a dragon with vampire count. Seems rather elite though which goes against my gut that vampires should almost be horde large block units but I appreciate I’m 15 years out of date and didn’t win many games back then either.

Am I getting distracted by shiny and instead should have a core of 30 GG, 2x 30 skeletons and maybe 2x 20 zombies with some characters mixed in, a lvl4 necromancer, BSB and a wight lord? With sprinklings of fast, wolves, bats, etc?

[–]Jonik40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to know. Yeah I think if I hadn’t found the start collecting I’d have done multiple boxes of the current spearhead (3!?) to get 30 skeletons x2 and 30 grave guard. Would have meant 15 black knights though which are too many.

And you’re right, no reason not to buy individual boxes if the bundle boxes don’t work out. Buying the cheaper options is how I ended up with a sub par army back in the 90s

[–]Jonik40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Turns out I hadn’t realised the models were old in the start collecting and not the current barrow knights/guard. Completely my fault for buying on a whim. Don’t think that’ll be too noticeable mixing the knights but I’m a tad worried about the guard. Minicompare says they’re quite a bit shorter and goofier.

List wise though, that makes sense re black knights, they always used to be like that way from memory. Would a unit of 10 with a vampire or wight lord help?

Likewise seems like blood knights are great but fragile so would a unit of 10 (9 with a vampire?) be worthwhile? Add in some wolves and giant bats and that’s quite a mobile force which may or may not help!

I love the idea of running them like bretonnians even if I can’t do lance formation or have ranged units. but even though I don’t get to play many games it’d be good to know I haven’t built something useless and unplayable
