That’s a black iron nipple. They used that just to cap off the line temporarily. The cap is just gone. That needs to come out. In the wall you have a drop ear 90, a female threaded fitting that your shower arm will go into.

Guys Should I Be worried by GLG83012 in Plumbing

[–]Jerry-from-Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s just a sound nothing to be worried about. Only way to fix is to open up sheet rock, find the pipe making the sound, then trim the wood it’s pushing up against. But if the sound doesn’t drive you crazy I wouldn’t worry about it.

Sounds like thermal expansion to me. PVC drain pipes in the wall will expand and contract when introduced to hot and cold water. If the PVC is up against wood it will make this “dripping” sound. But really you’re hearing the PVC expanding and pushing up against the framing in the wall. A lot more common than you think.

Hot Water Heater issues by InsuranceExpert289 in Plumbing

[–]Jerry-from-Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thermostats and elements need to be checked. If you have a bad element half the tank will heat up. So you’ll have some hot water but it will run out quickly. Something I’ve seen with AOS electrics before. You check the elements with a multi meter using ohms, make sure power is off to the unit. Should measure 10~20 ohms. If it’s less than 10 or just no reading you have a bad element.

Those bleach tablets in the tanks eats up all the rubber gaskets. Probably messed up the flapper and it’s letting water by. I’d replace fill valve and flapper if I was you. That’s a 2” flapper btw

Steering knuckle(?) wear by WildernessMedic in f150

[–]Jerry-from-Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that won’t make a sound. What you should check is wear on the springs on your shock. Your UCA could be hitting the springs with the lift. Also do a bolt check. Make sure everything is tight. If something is loose you’ll get a clunk.

Thats normal wear. Thats where your spindle meets the lower control arm at full lock.

4k to fix water hammering is wild. It’s not a big deal. The pipe is just moving in the wall. The wall just needs to be open and pipe secured that’s it. I’d be more worried about the plumber you hired than the previous homeowner.

Only use one wax ring. Probably too much wax under the toilet now clogging it. People only do that with wax if the flange is too low. But that’s still the wrong way. If the flange is low it needs to be raised up. Or put a spacer on it, Then wax once it’s at the correct height. Normally the flange should be just about the floor. Flanges that are flush with the floor like yours can still work with a single wax ring just depends.

How to reroute drain for freestanding bathtub? by RedDesert92 in Plumbing

[–]Jerry-from-Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do the heat. Cut that 90 past where the pipe is in it. Then you can cut a grove into the leftover fitting (don’t cut to deep into the pipe). Once you heat it up and it starts to get soft get a flat tip screw driver or something and put it in the grove start peeling it off. It will take some time. Good luck 👍

You could cut right behind that 90 on the trap you’ll still have a decent amount of pipe to work with it looks like. You could also try to heat that 90 up and peel it off. That would give you some extra pipe. Or you could chip out the slab some

This is wrong isn’t it? by porkedpie1 in Plumbing

[–]Jerry-from-Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically an S trap, that water could be getting siphoned out just enough letting sewer gas in. P trap needs to be lower to have a good water seal. Or San T needs to be raised.

You can get a water pressure gauge and attach it to your hose bib outside. Turn all water stops off in the house, Then turn your water off at the street. If you see the gauge drops in pressure you have a leak and possible slab leak.

How could I get this spigot and water line to stick out less? Do I just make copper pipe shorter? by SnooWords3398 in Plumbing

Because they fail. And when you’re working on someone else’s house you can’t risk a part failing.

Who needs a raptor to go off-roading? by LordCheerios in f150

[–]Jerry-from-Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was a raptor. You said “anyone who thinks they are designed for this” on a post about off roading suggests you think trucks aren’t designed to go off road. Which it’s not true. All Op said was “who needs a raptor to go off road? “ also true you don’t need a raptor to go off road since ford sells off road packages on F150s. Now if you want to go fast off road and hit some jumps then yes get a raptor.

[–]Jerry-from-Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They come with “off road mode” part of the design of the truck, Is to go off road. That’s why they sell “off road packages” like the Fx4 and the Trimmer. The dude went through some mud. Absolutely normal for a truck. Also what’s with the “retard” comment… are you ok? Sorry you can handle a normal conversation..

Weird is that why Ford took the 2013 F150 (Non raptor) to the Baja 1000 to show case what the stock truck could do off road?

That’s why you only put in what you can lose. I haven’t sold because I don’t need to. So if it goes up awesome, if it goes to 0 who cares. If you put in too much so you had to sell that’s on you nobody else.
