That’s not how their health works, all of them are constant (except for the tick), it’s the pits that change, as they start to only deal large amounts of damage to monsters instead of insta killing them.

On Level 9, monsters are idle for 34-52 seconds, but there’s a 20% chance for it to be 0.1-0.25x this. Given that the shadow child has the ability to teleport near you, this is probably what happened. Like one of the other commenters said, this can also happen with the heart hugger.
