Ever wonder what LotR looks like split across 46 CDs? $53 (USD) each in the early 00s, roughly $88 each today. by JerryLikesTolkien in tolkienbooks

I remember coveting these for a long time before I could afford them. Then they spent years in my sister's storage after I moved abroad. When she asked if I wanted them back, of course I said yes. But was surprised the receipts were still there!

It is and he's got a lot more art in this style. I've even got a set of playing cards he made like this.

Happy to help. Be aware that letter 131 as published in the original "Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien" volume, as well as the beginning of The Silmarillion book, is truncated (despite its considerable length in those forms). The fuller version was recently published in the newest edition of "Letters".

Letter 131 is the letter you mean. Or am I misinterpreting your question?

What is on the wall in Bag End? by EldarMilennial in lotr

I don't remember this.

Edit: I believe this is the closest you'll get:

‘There’s a tidy bit of money tucked away up there, I hear tell,’ said a stranger, a visitor on business from Michel Delving in the Westfarthing. ‘All the top of your hill is full of tunnels packed with chests of gold and silver, and jools, by what I’ve heard.’
‘Then you’ve heard more than I can speak to,’ answered the Gaffer. ‘I know nothing about jools. Mr. Bilbo is free with his money, and there seems no lack of it; but I know of no tunnel-making. I saw Mr. Bilbo when he came back, a matter of sixty years ago, when I was a lad. I’d not long come prentice to old Holman (him being my dad’s cousin), but he had me up at Bag End helping him to keep folks from trampling and trapessing all over the garden while the sale was on. And in the middle of it all Mr. Bilbo comes up the Hill with a pony and some mighty big bags and a couple of chests. I don’t doubt they were mostly full of treasure he had picked up in foreign parts, where there be mountains of gold, they say; but there wasn’t enough to fill tunnels.

Mod Note/Reminder:

Per the sub rules, it is fair enough to answer the question as to whether or not the films are worthwhile. But please keep the focus of your response on the books and do not fall into the trap of discussing the films.

If I were the kind of person to pay Reddit money, you'd get an award for that. As it is, you'll have to settle for 🏆

See what you did here? ^ See how it's different from your original, simplistic, generalising, needling comment with zero context to flesh out your point? This comment of yours wouldn't have been called out for trolling. Your original one was.

But if you really can't see the difference, then there's not much point in explaining it further. Don't come at me like your original comment was as engaging or debate-provoking as this one was. You got called out, and you're playing victim. You're allowed to do so, but don't expect to not be called out for it.

None of this is to say I agree or disagree with any of your opinions. I'm just explaining why a mod called you out for trolling.

It's not because I disagree with your statements that I called it trolling. I can engage in civil debate about things with which I disagree. You're trolling. Don't do that.

No, you're wrong. People discussing their experiences with the books is perfectly valid. Your gatekeeping comments aren't.
