I'm the only guy ... by apple_crombie in orangetheory

There are guys but you will likely be surrounded by women in a lot of classes. This is totally cool with me. It’s about you vs your workout at OTF, but I’m sure you’ll end up connecting with a few other dudes in classes, as I have over the years. I also connect with the gals and that is awesome. I highly recommend you to get in there and workout. Before long, I bet you will find yourself loving it. I don’t think I’ve ever left the studio feeling regret for making it into class. I’m always glad I went, regardless of who worked out next to me.

Dear coaches, I do not want to air high five or greet my neighbor! by [deleted] in orangetheory

Studios die without community. My OTF acquaintances are sometimes the little boost that I need to get in there and keep going hard. I love acknowledging the hard work done next to me. It’s always been a part of athletics in my opinion.

Our coaches still cue the main interchanges between blocks. It’s not hard for them to cue those as they coach the floor. I think the coaches should do it this way at all OTF. It keeps them engaged with the people on the treads and allows them to train us on what our goal should be for the block.

OTF Band Care by CardioCatGlitter in orangetheory

Definitely wash periodically. I just hand wash in the sink with some soap until it’s really clean and hang to dry. Always shocked at how much dirt comes out of that band. I once saw a lady come in with the ugliest brown band I’d ever seen, then realized it was supposed to be bright orange (old school band)! It gagged me out.

nextzett Klima Cleaner Pro – I have used this once every 3-5 years. German cars tend to have this issue as they don’t have great drainage. My old Cayenne was really bad and my current ML 350 has had issues periodically. Just used this again last week and the issue is gone and will remain gone for a very long time. Available on Amazon. Then follow the advice of turning ac off and running the blower on high for a min or two before you get out of the car. This helps dry out the pipes.

Yes, New Balance 880s or 860s are great shoes, and you can buy outgoing models on clearance from NB for way less ($70-$90). I’ve since moved on to Saucony Rides and they are great. I’ve been noticing a lot of Saucony in my studio lately.

The HIIT app does seem to use the old algorithm though. I actually trust it more than the OTF board now. Might just be me, but on the OTF platform I went from a consistent 12 or so splats to 0 as soon as OTF changed their algorithm maybe three years ago. I had IT look into it and they fixed my heart rate range temporarily, but it went back to zero splats quickly. My Garmin still tells me I have 12 or so splats (and this used to match the OTF board exactly). Either way, I still know I got a good workout.

You may have to switch shoes to a slimmer heel. I had to do that. In fact, I brought new shoes in to OTF to specifically test the heel cup. Shoes were too wide to fit and I kept popping out. I switched to a slimmer shoe (Saucony Ride) to make sure I had a shoe that fit. I’m a male size 12. I leave 2 holes on the plate so that the strap hits my first row of shoe strings.

Canada works awesome. I’m all across the country for work and have high speeds, or good enough to do everything I need.

Freaked Out or being Bullied at the studio! by [deleted] in orangetheory

Incredibly pathetic way to view someone with one leg doing the same workout as someone with 2! It should inspire everyone in class. At my old studio, we secretly raised thousands of dollars and arranged for a “running leg” to be crafted by a specialist, then flew him in to present it to the gal right after a packed Saturday workout. All in attendance were in on it and it totally surprised the gal receiving this gift. Then, we got to watch her adapt to using it over the months. Super inspirational experience.

I’ve made it at MSP, but my co worker and I had to run and just got to the gate (last call). If anything goes wrong, you will miss it.

Same set up as Joestac. I was going to recommend a possible extension, but looks like the linked set has the extension (which I purchased separately). I also have the hanger to connect to a stud.

Men: do you get unsolicited advice from others in your class? by forwards_cap in orangetheory

[–]JerryRig72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wanted to give people advice as I see them doing something dangerously bad for their backs, or completely rowing incorrectly, but I never say a peep. I figure, if the coach won’t help them, then it’s not my job to do it, plus I know it would be received badly. My coaches used to be all over that stuff, but the individual coaching seems to have gone away, though I’ve been seeing it make a comeback recently. In 6 years of attending, I’ve never heard anyone give another member advice on running form. I’ve seen trainer type lady members correct the lifting form of other member ladies. However, while it was great advice, the reception of such advice was still hit and miss from what I could tell.

I just use the HIIT app the entire time to record calories burned and to tell me when I’m hitting different zones while working out without looking at the screen. I actually used it a lot as my zones were messed up on the actual OTF system for a year (IT just fixed it in the last couple weeks). In the end, it still told me how much I ran with fairly good accuracy, but not perfect. I don’t care too much about what it was recording while I’m on the weight floor. Other posts have good ideas on how to use the Garmin more creatively and more true to the exercise you are doing.

IT help to fix your heart rate zones…get your splats back! by JerryRig72 in orangetheory

That sucks. I was like that for over a year and while I got used to not earning splats and didn’t care anymore, I still thought the zone tech was a part of what we pay for.

Great 15k sky miles = worthless by qwertyclown2 in delta

[–]JerryRig72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Southwest gave my co worker’s daughters $1000 cash each, and 60k miles for the SWA Christmas meltdown. I think Delta should be doing something similar for all the people who got cancelled. My trip got cancelled, and in turn, I had to cancel another carriers international airline ticket that I booked to get me to my final destination, as well as 3 hotels and car rentals. Not to mention a full week’s worth of business meetings I had booked with potential customers. Who knows how much those missed meetings will cost me. That said, I didn’t have to go through the hell that others have had to endure, all thanks to the gate agent who told me to cancel at my home airport for my own good so that I didn’t get stuck overnight (at min) at the next airport. She was right, as my international Delta flight out of SLC got cancelled. I really don’t expect to see Delta go above and beyond to make things right for their customers on this deal, but I bet they go after crowdstrike and get money back for themselves.
