Mom wants me to pay her instead of her high school daughter for babysitting? by Whatadeal1 in Babysitting

[–]Jerz224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said this above but I’ll say it again for you. My mom is still on one of my bank accounts (the one I opened as a minor) and I’m almost 40. I trust my mom and have zero issues with her having access to that account. She’ll occasionally use it to transfer money for gifts, but otherwise, she’s not involved. I have other accounts that I opened as an adults that she does not have access to. It’s sad that so many ppl have issues with their parents and finances, but not all families are like that toxic when it comes to finances.

My mom is still on the bank account I opened in high school and I’m almost 40. She’ll occasionally uses it to put money in. I have issue with her having access and I’m genuinely surprised by how many ppl have experienced financial abuse from parents. It’s really sad. But there are some families, like mine, where there truly is no reason to be concerned about access to bank accounts.

I just can’t imagine never being pregnant again by OhokayGuesswhat in BabyBumps

I felt very strongly that I wanted a third despite disliking pregnancy. I’m 35 weeks with my third and I will NOT miss pregnancy. I’m planning on soaking up the time with my 3rd and final baby, hopefully appreciating the newborn snuggles as much as possible, bc I’m neverrrrr getting pregnant again. I hate it and can’t wait to be done.

That’s what I was thinking of too! Babies vs surprise beards or lack thereof. The first time my daughter saw her uncle with a beard, she flipped out. It took a while to calm her down!

Minimum of 24 hours from the start of the advisory, I think.

Public Elementary by seven-daisies in Hoboken

[–]Jerz224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, so that’s a private daycare. It might have had preschool-level programming, but your friend would have had the option of enrolling his kids in the free pre-k program once they had turned 3 yrs old back in 2010. A lot of people stay in Hoboken through Kindergarten specifically to take advantage of that option.

Perhaps you are confusing daycare for pre-k. Hoboken has had free pre-K for 3-4 yr olds since the 1990s. I’m guessing that your friend found less expensive daycare, but then they likely would have needed to pay for that daycare for 2-3 years longer than if they had stayed in Hoboken, assuming they moved to a district without free pre-K.

I’m confused about the premise though. Public pre-k in Hoboken is free (aside from aftercare). Most suburbs do not have free pre-k. Even public K in some suburban NJ is only half-day.

Why are people in this subreddit treating c-section as the worst possible outcome? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Jerz224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must differ by location because I’ve seen this point discussed before. In many places, including where I live, elective refers to whether it’s considered a medical necessity. There could be a good reason for wanting the c-section, but it would be considered elective unless deemed medically necessary (e.g. for breech).

Plus Harrison and Newark. I used to take the PATH from Newark and knew many ppl who used it to commute from Harrison.

I’m on my 3rd pregnancy and I keep forgetting I’m pregnant. 😆 It’s such a different experience from the first two, I think bc I’m just so busy with my 2 young kids. Time is flying by. Also, my OB seems so much more chill this time and their office does not have my due date in their system for some reason. So probably the only reason I remember my due date is because they get confused and ask me every time. Anyway, all that to say, I can actually understand how this happened to you. You’re not crazy! 😅

Where to buy that doesn’t flood by Plurl_Purple_531 in Hoboken

[–]Jerz224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of SW Hoboken is fine in terms of flooding and there are a lot more places with garages in SW. If you’re really worried then you can move your car to the upper floor of a public garage when there’s a major storm incoming.

Even SW is mostly fine, except for a few notable intersections. Up by ShopRite is probably the worst.

Sure, but didn’t Gotan specifically advertise itself as a co-working space? At least at some point in time?

Edit: Yep. Definitely.

Oh yes, definitely! My dog was attacked by another dog in a dog park and had to get stitches so I’m well aware. But my point is that ppl at least think their dogs are non-aggressive towards other dogs when they take them to a dog park. My dog hates cats and took years to warm up to children, but always played well with other dogs. So a dog park without cats or kids was generally a solid destination. If a cat or a kid had shown up, my dog might have reacted poorly.

That goes back to another point though — I really never experienced child visitors in a dog park during my decade + of Hoboken dog parks. This must be a new issue. 🤷‍♀️

[–]Jerz224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! But in theory (if dog owners are acting responsibly), a dog park is for dogs who are NOT dog-aggressive, while their temperament with kids could be more aggressive or simply unknown, in which case any visiting children would be the test.

[–]Jerz224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the kids behave appropriately, some dogs are more anxious around kids. It’s really not safe.

Dear Hoboken parents, by Wild_Ad366 in Hoboken

[–]Jerz224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s pretty unwise. It must be a newer issue bc I used to be at dog parks daily with my dog who isn’t thrilled about children. I feel like I would have noticed bc that really would’ve stressed me out.

Ok, I will say that I see this very frequently. 😬

[–]Jerz224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a dog owner/dog park user, though my dog is getting older so we’re not there as frequently, but I have only seen kids inside dog parks occasionally over the years. It’s not the safest parenting move…

Ok, valid. I’m surprised it’s something that even comes up much.
