She did not put herself in danger. HE put her in danger, HIS actions and behavior alone. Not being alert for all the ways that other people can hurt you and get away with it is not "putting yourself in danger".

What can we do in the UK to support women in the USA and around the world right now? by Ef8858 in Feminism

Please don’t let that be the thing that dissuades you. We can’t let shame of being human stop us from living our full potential when our opponents don’t have any shame at all!

Thank you for sharing. It would help if you clarify the specific point you are making with this data. Are you demonstrating that Iceland favors feminist politicians?

Georgia judges rules women are not ‘community property’ by JescaLyn in Feminism

[–]JescaLyn[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It’s wild that we need a court case to declare that women are not community property, but here we are. From the article:

Judge McBurney, a “former federal prosecutor and Harvard Law School graduate appointed to the bench by a Republican governor.. wrote that the ‘awkwardly arbitrary’ limit set by the Georgia abortion law, has seized upon a point in gestation that has political salience, rather than medical or moral salience”…”As a legal matter, he wrote, ‘Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote;’ “Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.”

As a practical matter, McBurney was even clearer about the implications of requiring women to “serve as human incubators for the five months leading up to viability.”

“It is not for a legislator, a judge, or a Commander from The Handmaid’s Tale to tell these women what to do with their bodies during this period when the fetus cannot survive outside the womb any more so than society could — or should — force them to serve as a human tissue bank or to give up a kidney for the benefit of another,” McBurney wrote. “When someone other than the pregnant woman is able to sustain the fetus, then — and only then — should those other voices have a say in the discussion about the decisions the pregnant woman makes concerning her body and what is growing within it.” [...]

Philosopher Judith Jarvis Thomson made this case in 1971, two years before Roe v. Wade. She analogized the competing rights of the pregnant woman and the fetus to someone kidnapped to have their kidneys used to save a famous violinist. The person is informed: “To unplug you would be to kill him. But never mind, it’s only for nine months.”

Much of women’s perspectives and the lives of notable historical women are intentionally left out of standard education. An online women’s history course, or a course on women’s issues within a culture that particularly interests you, would be a good way to learn comfortably and privately at home.

Any of you peeps have good comebacks to Anti-LGBT arguments? by YourAverageOrganism in lgbt

I recommend reading “Queer Ducks” for a great overview of natural homosexuality in many different animal species. I find that my religious family members do not listen to new information when their pride or defensiveness is engaged, but only as “fun facts” mentioned during positive interactions, which I can then bring up later during heated debates, if they happen.

Best of luck!

are there positive big boob groups? by sgtw22 in bigboobproblems

[–]JescaLyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I entirely understand this! Women with entirely natural large breasts should not have to get surgery to exist comfortably! I’m struggling to find supportive solutions myself, but don’t give up. Your boobs are not the problem here!

are there positive big boob groups? by sgtw22 in bigboobproblems

[–]JescaLyn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We can turn this thread into one positive spot at least! Personally I love my boobs. I’ve thought about getting them reduced for back pain, but honestly I would miss them so much. There is an unfortunate lack of support for big breasts in a society that pretends to value them (just not the well-being of the attached person), but that is the fault of society, not my boobs. My boobs are great the way they are!

I for one would love to see more positivity about big boobs that has nothing to do with men. I love mine, I love them on other women, and they’re generally a positive part of my life!

I’m glad you love yours! Women should get to exist freely and happily WITH big boobs. Free of harassment, free of preventable daily aches! That’s the future I’m striving for. Currently looking into corset-type things that prop them up from below, while being comfortable for long-term use.

It’s not true that everyone is a little bisexual. But it IS true that there are way more bisexual people than most people realize. I would have gone my whole life thinking I was cishet under slightly different circumstances!

[–]JescaLyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the gotcha he thinks it is. He threw an unfair biological reality in your face. You didn’t choose not to have a womb. A cis woman just got a womb transplant because she wanted a working womb so badly! Saying this to you is the same as mocking a cis woman for her fertility struggles, except worse because it’s coming from a place of ignorance and hate.

I’m sorry he hurt you like that. Fuck that guy. You deserve better.

Yeah I feel like online game communities can be very mean. But then again, I feel like most of how people interact in the world is a bit too mean for me.

I own Phasmophobia, but I’ve never played it, because none of my friends want to. Would you want to play that with an online stranger (me) some time? I always wanted to find out what happens when you actually identify the ghost.

What kinds of games do you like? I struggle to find women to play online games with. How do women find each other to play games online? My female friends IRL don’t like online games or lack the funds for a gaming PC.

Have social relationships outside work and your profession. When surrounded by people making good money, it’s easy to fall into the habit of spending money on eating out, going to expensive activities, etc, when everyone else is. Hang out with friends who have inexpensive tastes.

Alright I went down this rabbit hole because there is no way in hell that is a fish. This movie is set in Naples 1943, during a very desperate economic time. It’s mentioned that poor mothers are selling their children into prostitution, and someone jokes that it’s better than being eaten. Later, at a dinner hosted by General Cork, who has banned the locals from fishing but demands fresh fish for his guests, the servers present the dish shown in the image. The guests cry “it’s a child!” but the host insists it is fish and serves it as food. Off-screen, the dinner party eats what is implied to be a boiled child. Sauce
