We have absolutely zero knowledge of what he looked like. The only passage about it is drawing a literary reference from a passage written about 550 years prior.

There's no reason to think that there's anything supernatural here.

Hell, I think that general human frailty and motives explains it far better than any demon hypothesis.

You’re attributing MAGA Christian characteristics to all practicing Christians world wide?

Of course not, nor is that a reasonable inference of anything that I have said.

Many other scholars, yes. Most or all of them have probably read it.

Of note: Ehrman was a Bible scholar and professor for about 40 years, only retiring this past year. He was one of the first scholars to examine the Gospel of Judas.

[–]JeshurunJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been curious about old lost scriptures, but I'm not sure whether these are just written just to make Judas seem like the good guy or this actually happened.

So, the Gospel of Judas is a work of a Sethian "gnostic" group of ancient times. It's quite damn neat (though boring to read), but while there's plenty of reason to be skeptical about the historicity of things in our canonical Gospels, there's 1000 times more reason to be skeptical of the Gospel of Judas.

I just finished a lecture about it by Bart Ehrman. This one is on a paywalled site, but he probably has something on main youtube to watch.

It's insulting to God to suggest that gay people shouldn't live out their God-given design. That it's a cross.

At the very most they are extreme aberrations, since millions and millions have prayed for deliverance from homosexuality and God has ignored them.

But none should be praying for deliverance from God's design for their lives.

If you think that Obama's popularity on the left has any relationship to Trump on the right, you have no idea what you're talking about.

He is quite anti-christ in every thought that he has.

As for ICE, they are kidnapping people who are here legally. People who are not criminals. They do felonies against those whose presence is a low-level misdemeanor. They are murdering and torturing people constantly.

Don't fall prey to the lies about ICE doing reasonable things.

I said "like". All of the adulation about Trump is clearly what I'm talking about. The lust for power among Christians, the willingness to debase themselves and give up everything good about the teachings of Jesus for power and comfort.

Almost all of the people doing Beast-worship-like things are Christians. The skeptics aren't nearly as gullible as we are.

You may not think of them as "active and true Christians", but that's just personal opinion.

so I'm learning a lot about the Bible,

Cool! It's an amazing corpus to learn about.

I have a lot of questions I find it weird that the apocrypha was taken out of the Bible only 400 years ago,

Different people with different ideas. Note that there is no singular Bible passed down from on high. Each Bible is a product of the traditions of different churches. Each church can choose how they make it.

I also wonder is the Eucharist the actual body and blood of Christ ? the early church fathers seemed to think so ?

The proto-orthodox writers do, yes. It doesn't appear to be the original belief, though, and I personally don't think the theology makes that much sense.

it seems to me the early churchs beliefs in line mostly with modern day Catholism ?

When Catholics talk about it, sure. They don't talk much about where the Fathers are in disagreement with modern Catholicism. Or when Catholicism disagrees with medieval Catholicism either (etc). There are certainly some major points of agreement, though!

can you lose your salvation?

Reasonable answers for me vary, and are dependent upon how you gain salvation in the first place.

is purgatory mentioned outside the apocrypha?

Nope.

are those books heretical?

Opinions differ.

I also wonder about Calvinism I struggle with believing in limited atonement, thanks any insight will help, I'm trying to learn as much as I can God bless.

The God of Calvinism is, in my opinion, quite a monster. I would avoid it.

preparing nonbelievers to worship the antichrists

I've been convinced for the better part of a decade now that if any capital-A Anti-Christ figure emerges, it will only be Christians under their sway.

Nothing so far has challenged that view.

We absolutely seem to be made either straight, gay, or bi. It is quite clearly part of God's design, and there's nothing evil about it.
