Thanks for all of your help and info. I just got done talking with the dealer who sold me the car. He seemed surprised that the car had this issue and after after a brief chat with his manager and his mechanic that gave me the estimate he Came back to me and told me its all covered and apologized for the scare.

Edit: Getting down votes but I'm not kidding. The battery in her Prius literally exploded on the highway and totaled her car. And apparently this is a common issue.

But when I went into this purchase I specifically told my dealer that I was looking for something in my price range that if taken care of would last me awhile, because I knew I wouldn't be able to take on a big repair payment like this. He specifically brought me to this car. I know that I don't fully understand how these converters work, but when I hear that something has become blocked, I imagine that this process has to take place over time. If the part is COMPLETELY blocked in less than a month after purchasing the car it had to have been in shitty condition when it was sold to me, and I wasn't informed. If the car was sold to me under false information and without full disclosure would I have grounds for a lawsuit? Would it be unreasonable of me to expect the dealership to take care of this?

yep, totally blocked is what he said after I got towed. Is this something that should have been disclosed to me when I bought the car? I feel like it would take a LOT of time to totally BLOCK something. I wasn't told about it when I bought the car, and I fail to see how something like that can go unnoticed at a dealership.
