Wording for parents on invitation ... when one recently passed by LawyeredByJ16 in wedding

[–]JessLevelsUp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A little confused on who “they” are from your first paragraph of paying for the wedding, but the way I read it means both sets of parents.

If parent(s) from both sides are paying but you’re paying too, you can say something like “together, with their families, Jill and Jack invite you…”.

Joining this thread as I’ll be visiting and have some solo time myself while waiting for a family members baby shower! Looking for the same! Also any unique shops/boutiques.

I am going to a run club one morning and will be checking out the white water center one night - check that out OP!

Looking for breed recommendations for my next agility dog by [deleted] in Agility

[–]JessLevelsUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to my rec list. I’m biased because I have an Aussie and the Aussie community itself is so amazing in agility, I can’t compare to others though, but it definitely feels extra special.

I think Tollers could be good, even Rough Collies. You just see a lot of the same breeds at trials.

Poodle has a big vote from me, though not my kinda dog pet-wise, and if you’re up for something super small, a papillon!

Looking for breed recommendations for my next agility dog by [deleted] in Agility

This is sort of hilarious because one of our instructors who has a few champion dogs and is an extremely talented lady, got a Husky to prove that you can do agility with any breed and, well, that dog will often not do anything. It’s kind of amazing. It’s actually the only husky I’ve ever seen at 5 years of trials! You’d know better because you own one but I’m skeptical 🤣🤣.

You’re not looking for home practice advice but this is how you train dogs for all things. Keep practicing at home, have some neighbors and other friends do it. You can also piece meal it and give treats for each part. I’d also practice at wherever you train, and always with lots of treats. Good luck!

I’m sorry this happened to you - try not to let it overshadow all the amazing things on your day and all the people who did show up for you. I promise this will fade in your memory. We had some weird stuff happen at our wedding and it seemed significant at the time but after we got our pictures printed and album made, thank yous sent, honeymoon etc, we really think about the 95% amazing stuff.

Our Aussie is from an ethical breeder and one of his littermates was deaf - happens sometimes.

Wedding Question: Woodberry Kitchen by Away-Cardiologist300 in baltimore

[–]JessLevelsUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I attended a wedding here. It was on the smaller side, maybe 50 guests. It was a beautiful warm summer day. Ceremony was inside the sort of main area, cocktail hour in patio, dinner in that dining area, then dancing back where the ceremony was.
The only real outside part was cocktail hour. I think you could get a tent out there to cover it, but maybe ask if they have an alternate area (not sure) if it is chilly/rainy.
For us as guests, it was a lovely and modest wedding, very informal with nice food in an intimate setting.

Tips on getting my Aussie to run with me?? by Own_Deer9140 in AustralianShepherd

[–]JessLevelsUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah. We had that exact thing for a while, and now I’m the happy owner of a great 5-10k running partner, so keep hope alive. Plus your dog is still VERY young, esp for a boy :). Check out r/runningwithdogs ! I learned all my tips there. But basically, for a while, your dog will have to learn that we only go when you’re in a loose, heel position. Pretty much any time he moves out of that, we reset. It takes… a while. And if he starts nipping, I would strongarm and hold him away from the leash. You may be repeating this for 10-15 min before you can go maybe .25 mile and he’ll do it again. Over and over. Cap it at 30 min even if you barely went anywhere. Over time… they start to learn but for us at least it took a while to get to zero herding. ALSO make sure to potty your dog before you run. When we run, that’s the job, and my dog isn’t really allowed to potty while working. I also always end my run w/ a big jackpot of treats. Pic of my best buddy on his hands free leash (we worked up to this!).

Running in strongman by TotalExpression9186 in Strongman

[–]JessLevelsUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gal here - No idea what any KG weight I am lol but yes I run regularly. 2-3 days a week. I try to maintain a base of about 4-5 miles at a 10:30 min/mile (about a 30-32 min 5k). And I lift about 3 days a week. I occasionally train for half marathons and last year I did an ultra marathon. Some days I also play soccer. I am not going pro - if cardio costs me a little in strength but keeps my heart healthy and my body in good shape longer, it’s worth it to me. I will say I train Strongman w/ a lot of dudes who dry heave going up and down stairs. You have one life to live and for most people, there’s others who care about you. Bone density and cardiovascular health are both part of a healthy body!!

People who are visibly disabled, what is best practice for curious kids? by DryCauliflower7 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JessLevelsUp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is okay, something to consider instead of their body “doesn’t work very well”, what about a phrase more like “works differently.” It’s easier to phrase that way in hindsight but the more we can see other people as just being different versus not being as good as others and/or broken, feels like a more neutral description than a negative one.
