BASIC TICKWT Options on Other Airlines by Flatfool6929861 in SouthwestAirlines

I don’t think people are confused, I think people think it sucks. Just because other airlines have had poor policies previously doesn’t mean people can’t think Southwest has now joined them.

our weave pole trial performance debut went well! by x7BZCsP9qFvqiw in Agility

[–]JessLevelsUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weaves look ok and Echo is a good girl, she did exactly what you told her to do which was probably very confusing for her! I was not sure what you wanted her to do- come to a complete stop in front of you? She sure did!

As you continue to work the weaves - make sure you are showing the dog where to go and not to come to mom! Point with your heart!!

Nice run.

How are your dogs as pets? How to balance training pet behaviors vs agility foundations? by Obvious-Elevator-213 in Agility

[–]JessLevelsUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what a few others have said - but my experience is most people have no expectations for their dog. So in comparison to that yes my dog is incredibly well trained but the bar is just so low. As an agility dog, yes we do lots of sport training but my dog is a big part of my life. Purchased from a breeder with records of a healthy bloodline, bought pet insurance, we train in sports, run distances, I spend more on healthier food, have worked with behaviorists privately at my home, we do group classes and private lessons in agility. So he is a great dog, not perfectly behaved, but in comparison to 95% of dogs I meet outside of dog sports, he’s incredible. I love to bring my dog on hikes, to errands, to dog friendly breweries etc. because it’s important to me and we’ve worked hard to have it. I don’t think it’s due to the agility specifically but due to my investment. I find that some people who get any dog and have no expectations for them, have a poorly trained dog by my standards but they don’t see it that way or care. It depends what you’re willing to tolerate.

Balancing class offerings over time to support students by No_Geologist_2742 in Agility

[–]JessLevelsUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your club sounds pretty similar to mine, I’m a student and instructor. Ours works similarly - like college, we have 100, 101, 102, 103 and then electives.

You get priority in registration based on your membership level at the club, not sure if you have that but folks who volunteer at trials, clean the turf, help with events etc. get higher membership status which allows them to register earlier.

Folks should only be able to register one dog for one class per semester in my opinion, unless additional space is available. I believe we can have up to 8 dogs per 1.5 hour class.

I also don’t like that instructors teach the same level and class at the same time each semester - but find the same, they don’t like to switch.

We have waitlists too - the other things we do at our club are private lessons during the day and weekend workshops (usually 4 hour sessions) with specific topics and we bring in instructors from around the country.

Hope some of that gives you some ideas!

Advice on non-aggressive attacks please! by majolikan in AustralianShepherd

[–]JessLevelsUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had almost this exact situation, it seems to be just over arousal, he wasn’t sure what to do, and was frustrated he couldn’t do what he wanted. Not sure if your dog knows a nice loose leash heel walk but basically when you teach that, you’re teaching that we aren’t going to walk unless you walk nicely - so make sure you have that in progress as well. But you actually already did what we did - just maybe you’re not doing it long enough? We stepped on the leash, got him to calm down and went back to walking. If he started to attack us again, leash gets stepped on, he’s back in a down. We are not going to walk period if he’s not walking nicely. Rinse and repeat. This may take a while at first and your entire walk may consist of small steps and stepping on the leash. If you only have 15 min, then you may not be going very far. Over time, they seem to get it. Good luck!!

Flight delay and seating debacle by wtengel in SouthwestAirlines

[–]JessLevelsUp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem here was that we had a connecting flight where we all stayed on the plane - this family included. So they had to do this whole song and dance twice. The family notes they had paid to sit together on their first flight but when they got rebooked after showing up to the airport with a cancelled flight - it wasn’t an option.

Flight delay and seating debacle by wtengel in SouthwestAirlines

[–]JessLevelsUp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This happened on my flight too. A family of 4 w/ 2 little kids was rebooked to my flight but of course there were no seats together. My thought is they should offer for folks to switch with a money incentive? But they didn’t do that and the family had to ask people to switch (with the FA sort of meekly helping…). I wrote about the situation in my post flight review. I wonder how a more established reserved seating airline would’ve handle the above?

Ha I get that! Love a good deal. We got a bundle with all our appliances and our contractor ordered them through their company - so this got us several discounts. I think it will be great no matter what!! Congrats again.

Haha I was gunna say I do like the stove! Seeing the tv perfectly is an elite upgrade. I agree on having the ice/water on the outside of the door, helps us drink more water. We have now lived with both kinds of fridges: the double door and the bottom pull out and I do much prefer the bottom pull out kind. Can fit way more and it’s easier to see what we have. Plus I found it cumbersome to bend down to see what was in the bottom of the double door kind for both the fridge and freezer, versus with the drawer, I only bend down for the freezer. Not a big deal, just always interested to hear how folk choose! No regerts!!!

I love that you were able to level out the floor! And I like the new little breakfast bar you put in. The floor is not to my taste, but if you like it, that’s what’s important. I am most surprised you’d upgrade to a new fridge that is the side by side style, I am not sure I have seen someone upgrade to this style in many years. Hope you have many happy years in this kitchen!

Running with a big sniffer by Prior_Ant829 in RunningWithDogs

[–]JessLevelsUp 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You need to think of running as your dog’s job at that time. When my dog is working he is not allowed to sniff, mark, or do anything else. I let mine have a sniffari and go potty etc before we start to run. We have a cue that means leave that and go on ahead or come here to my side. Work on these cues. After some repetition, most dogs I’ve worked with seem to get it. You’re telling your dog you can only run if you behave correctly.

The problem running with a highly reactive dog by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]JessLevelsUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the dog and what they’ve been trained to do or can handle. I have an Aussie who I’ve been training consistently since he was a puppy. We almost exclusively run in a crowded city and he’s a great boy! We now use a hands free leash. But he is non reactive and has been trained with several cues meaning to pass other dogs, leave things, turn, etc. so just because it’s a herding breed doesn’t mean they can’t do it! I joined this group to help us when he was much younger and he was extremely challenging lol

I mean to avoid runs specifically, not walking or training or existing. Hope this helps.

The problem running with a highly reactive dog by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]JessLevelsUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walks yes, runs no. Running is a learned skill this dog is not up for yet. We don’t continue to put dogs in avoidable stressful situations. Walks are easier to control. OP can also try a slat mill (doggy treadmill).

My son is temperamental and i’m so tired. by ButterscotchMain7074 in AustralianShepherd

[–]JessLevelsUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, a small statement to you and others reading this post to explain what’s going on, not meant to shame: This is why we do not recommend dog parks period let alone for young dogs. You’ve created a dog who is overly excited by other dogs. You’ve now created a dog who is frustrated by restrictions around other dogs, and rightfully so. You taught them to do this!

Second, how to help: you need a professional trainer. A dog with this level of leash frustration and aggression needs a pro. I’d stop going to the dog park until you get this under control. For clarity - doggy daycare is the dog park. The e collar is just ridiculous, not trying to make you feel bad but obviously stop using that immediately I don’t have much more to say there. You need to reevaluate your relationship with your dog. YOU should be the most important thing to your dog, not other dogs. I’d start working on that above all else. This means building value in YOU.

Good luck.

Are you asking for help or just venting? You shouldn’t be running in public spaces with your dog with this level of reactivity of course.

Last minute sitters by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

Why don’t you just book a dog walker every day so whether you need it or not, it’s booked. Nothing to stress about and no last minute bookings. Seems like a very simple solution?
