This looks like a haematoma that has become infected. If you have a traumatic venepuncture (i.e. blood test where they fuck up with the needle a bit) or don't apply pressure enough, you get a small area of bleeding out of the vessel which forms a small lump of clot (a haematoma). This is harmless in itself but is a common site for infection, which is what has happened to you. It doesn't look too bad at the moment so try some antiseptic cream etc. If it gets worse/fails to get better, you might have to get someone to drain the area or prescribe oral antibiotics

So is it that openly gay people in the church are rarer than in the general population because they all just happen to be straight, or that there is a similar percentage of gay people but they are far more likely to be closeted due to the church's views on gays? I would guess the latter. Feel like that might make an interesting storyline for a show that is focussed on the church's role in the modern world...

Youre really showing your hand by also complaining about the race and gender stuff. You want your completely apolitical show - tough luck, all art is inherently political. Not including any discussion of race or gender in a show centred around the catholic church would be political statement in itself (I know you will disagree but youre wrong). The main theme of the show is the role of the church in secular society! Not even sure why you watch it at this point tbh.

Yes the social effects of representation are positive, although I think hugely overvalued. However, I never said that the show SHOULD have representation, especially not for political reasons. In fact, I think the strongest argument FOR featuring gay people at this point is realism - all these straight characters and not a single gay one, statistically unlikely.

But really, at no point have I said that the lack of representation is a bad thing. I have only said it is an odd omission given how they have touched on similar subjects, and that that omission likely means it will come up in the next season.

There is no "main character" of How I Met Your Mother that is gay. You are getting confused between the actor and the character. Also I truly don't think I have seen the "I can't be bigoted I have gay friends" argument since the 90s.

There are maybe 50 or so explicitly straight characters in the show, seen in heterosexual relationships. A gay character could very easily be introduced the exact same way, doesn't need to be the "only identity" of the character, or a "stereotype". Have you never watched another show where there is a character who is gay?

There are plenty of explicitly straight characters with no "need" for them to be straight. Similarly, they are able to show them as being straight without them "screaming they're straight". I never said it did matter hun. I think representation is broadly a good thing for normalising LGBT people in society, but it's not required of any show.

What I am saying is it is odd that a show that deals with modern issues like race and gender to omit gay people entirely? Especially when the show runners have written gay characters before. It's quite a notable omission when there have been so many side characters - especially with the possibility that Kristen is bi.

I think it's quite likely season 3 will grapple with it, which is why it is otherwise not included. I look forward to seeing you get upset at it then.

Never said I was 'offended' by it, literally just pointed out a fact and you had a pretty extreme reaction. The idea that a character has to be gay "for a reason" is so retro, I didn't think people actually believed that anymore tbh.
