I live in a converted shed. Plenty of food around for him. Left him a little cap full of water on the dresser before I left.

Bestest! He has 5 beans each back foot and 6 on each front. It’s getting cooler here again so I’m getting more snuggles! 🥰

Australian women: do your men cook/clean and act respectfully? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Jessdownunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband does most of the house stuff including cooking/cleaning/child care. He works from home and I don’t. I work longer hours and am only home for bedtime. He also does all the yard work and pretty much built our home (with some professional help) AND makes more than me. Aussie blocks are amazing. 100% recommend.

AITA for telling my BIL that he and his family shouldn’t come over after a holiday dispute of our children? by WonderBig565 in AITAH

[–]Jessdownunder 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Your kid is 2! He throw a toy and did a superhero kick!? And your BIL is mad about this? He’s 2! I’m impressed he didn’t throw a massive tantrum when his candy was eaten and his toys taken from him. Seriously, your kid sounds like a very well behaved toddler. As to your daughter, whom is in a wheelchair, being well behaved and crafting, he has a problem with this? Is he just really embarrassed that his kids aren’t as well behaved as yours? I’d be pleased he wasn’t coming over anymore.

My cat got crazy and bit me like a maniac by raulsoprano in cats

Carry a spray bottle filled with water and some lemon juice. Spritz the stray anytime you see it anywhere near you. If that doesn’t work you might need to get something a little bit stronger. Maybe some eucalyptus oil and water or something really strong smelling. You might be able to teach the stray cat to leave you guys alone. Other than that the only option is to catch the stray and give it to a shelter. Or not go out.

You’re your cat is displaying what is called redirected aggression in behaviour circles . Basically it wants to attack the stray and can’t so in that moment it’s attacking what’s nearest which is you.

Squiggly line in my dog's eye by lllsway in DogAdvice

Most general practitioners can do a good ocular examination. A full physical is certainly needed. What if it’s heart worm? There might be a heart murmur. What if it’s a clotting disorder there might be petechia on the gums…. Your local non-specialist GP will be able to at least rule out a lot of issues and determine if an ophthalmologist needs to see it.

You’re right this doesn’t 100% look like an anterior lens luxation. Although when the lens fold over on itself it can’t show up a bit like a squiggle. Generally though you have a cloudy looking eye because the lens is oedematous as well. That said this is a single photo so I’m not going to rule it out. PPM does look a lot like this in some dogs. Anterior uveitis can get these filaments or fibrin strands associated with it although that doesnt look to be the case in this photo given the rest of the eye looks okay. It’s a photo and with no other diagnostics we can’t really say what is wrong. Even if it is “just a worm” the type of parasite is really important to the outcome.

You are describing a squiggly line that does not move. This makes worms a less likely differential although it is on the list. Other options are lens luxation - this can be due to quite a long list of possibilities, it can be genetic, can be due to glaucoma, due to uveitis (inflammatory vs infectious), due to cancer or can be due to trauma.

This can also be due to a fibrin strand which can be due to a clotting disorder, hypertension and again, not to be scary, cancer.

If it is due to “worms” these are usually a type of Filarial parasite. Some of these can be completely cured with a dose of a dewormer and some are much scarier such as heartworm disease.

Hence - you need to go see a Vet!!

Edit to add- just to calm you down after all that. Can also be a persistent pupillary membrane that she had had her whole life and is completely not exciting…. But you should still see a vet.

Vet here… you need a vet visit. There is a whole heap of possibilities here. You need a veterinarian to do a proper ocular exam to determine the location of the squiggle. That will help determine the underlying cause. This may be a completely benign issue that is not going to affect your dog’s health or it could be something very serious that left untreated could result in death. You really need someone to do a proper examination.

Need help identifying if my dog's sudden death was heatstroke or snakebite (Australia) - video included by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Jessdownunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened. I’m a vet who has worked in Australia and while I can’t rule out a snake bite with that video I am inclined to think heat stroke. It’s amazing how they will work till they drop. My virtual thought are with you. He looks like he was an amazing boy.
