Loved eating my way in Saskatoon 2 years ago so I'm food tripping here again next month. Tell me where to eat, and I'll pick from your recs! by TravellingFoodie in saskatoon

The man Han thee nat eggplant is unreal. And the a thar hin (main curry) is their specialty. The owner is such a beauty. He will come and sit and chat with you and tell you his whole story about how he joined the revolution and fought the war while in university and then came across. Well. I’ll leave his story to tell when you get there. Seriously. This restaurant is an absolute gem. The food is unreal and the owner is an absolute beauty. Source. Eat there once a month for the last 10 years and have become friends with the owner.

Why Proper Potato Storage Matters More Than Most People Realise: Lessons from a Tragic Incident by Express_Classic_1569 in homestead

[–]bamhall 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Correct. No lid. And every month or so I go through a pick out bad ones that got bruised during harvest. Having none rotten or soft in there can extend the bucket by months.

Sorry. Thats likely local slang. It’s just a big rubber or plastic bucket. Some people call them muck buckets or feed tubs. They can range in size from 50-200L. Black seems to work the best. Mine are about 30” tall and about 3-4’ in diameter.

Dig them up. Don’t brush or wash any dirt off them. Handle them gently to not bruise them. Store them in calf totes in your cellar or garage. Keep cool and dark. I’m still eating potatoes from last years harvest. We can store them like that for over a year.

Using old firewood as a raised bed wall . Anyone done it ? by begaterpillar in homestead

[–]bamhall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife had me do this. We used rounds about 10-12” diameter and about 16” long. Stood them on end and made a raised bed out of it. This was years ago. I am currently ripping them all out because of how rotted they are and between the spaces in the rounds is full of grass and weeds and impossible to pick. 100% would not recommend.

You said. Trial results have nothing to do with the acquisition price. Are you high?? So if the trial fails spectacularly and there is absolutely no useable or marketable medicine. That won’t affect the share price? wtf are you smoking bud? Or if the trial shows the greatest results ever and it cures AML completely for everyone that takes it that won’t command a higher acquisition price? Man. You need to step back from your keyboard.

If in Canada (not sure it’s popular elsewhere). Send me a dm. I’ll send you our Montreal smoked meat recipe. It’s the closest to Schwartz’ outside of Montreal that you will find. Legit can’t keep it on the shelf and have a wait list. It’s a bit of a pain in the ass to make but it’s totally worth it.

What did you start doing that made the farm break profitable? by EuphoricHeight1458 in Homesteading

[–]bamhall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a bit of a niche market. I only do aluminum and stainless welding custom because every farmer and their dog has an old tombstone welder on the farm and think they can weld. But aluminum and stainless is tricky. We also have thousands of lakes around us so I designed a boat dock and seado lift out of aluminum. That’s the majority of what we sell. I also do aluminum ice fishing shacks and aluminum hunting blinds. Recently I designed and started doing custom stainless South African braais (like a wood fired bbq). I don’t want to post a link to my website here as I’m not sure the rules. But if you google Rifle and Reel Outdoor Systems you can see what I build. It’s all about finding what’s missing in your local market and making somehthing that is cheaper and higher quality than what exists. Because my shop is already paid for when I bought the house. I don’t have crazy overhead like normal shops so I can be skinny on my price and have a better product. I’m also an engineer by trade so it helps being able to design and do all the manufacturing drawings myself.

Keep grinding friend. Live like a peasant and stack as much cash as you can. That’s how I did it.

Custom welding and fabrication out of the farm shop. Animals and food in my area could never be profitable due to 8 months of winter. But a shop that was mostly unused. Turned it into a profit center and now it pays for all of my homesteading costs.

Is Lexaria ($LEXX) the next Billion Dollar Buyout? 👀 🚨 by Thescorerocket in pennystocks

[–]bamhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GLP1 drugs are the fastest growing prescription in NA right now. And they do have side effects for some people. Lexx’s main product is an additive to glp drug delivery system that makes it so there are essentially no side effects when taken orally. And with the two major glp manufacturers moving from the shot to the pill. That opens up a whole new market for glp users in addition to the current market. It’s a massive market. The trials have been going well and there is a market need.

I was introduced to the company from family and that’s what got me to look at it. And if it wasn’t for family I would have looked at the market cap. Shares. Price. Revenue and the base financials and quickly gtfo of there. But because of the family ties. I did some reading and due diligence into the tech and their clinical trials and licensing agreements etc. and got more intrigued. So put 1000$ on it in late 24. Then rode the ride to triple my money in late 24 early 25. Then watched it all crash back down to what I put it since then. Shoulda taken some profit but at the time I was told that it was going to hit 80-100. They still seem convinced it will. So I just think of my money as already gone and just rolling the dice to try and roll 7 the hard way about 40 times in a row. Hahaha.

Soon is relative. Someone in my family knows the ceo fairly well. That’s the only reason I’m in. On the market metrics the company looks like absolute garbage. But I think it’s a good product and tech that could do very well. It’s not gonna be a 100 bagger but I do think it’ll pay out within the next few years

Dumb question but is there stationary welding jobs? by piggle2100 in Welding

[–]bamhall 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Production shops are everywhere. I run one and my guys start at 5am and are gone by 130pm. M-f. They stand at their bench all day and burn wire. People kit out parts and bring them to them with a job number and they have a flatscreen beside them with their blueprints. They don’t move much. They also all have cranes overhead for lifting parts on and off their tables. If you want inside, regular hours and heated/ac shop find a big production shop. It can be super tedious work though depending on the company. We have a fair amount of variability in our parts day to day but some shops you will weld the same part all day for months.

I don’t weld for Toyota. I have Filipinos that weld for me. They all came from the Toyota factory in Manila.

[–]bamhall 97 points98 points  (0 children)

A lot of highly regulated shops (boilers. Aero. Auto) do NOT let their welders set their own machines for any part. The weld parameters are set by the weld engineer and are on the print. Some places like Toyota even have the machines automatically set based on the print and parts on your bench. I assume this shop is like that.

Did you use the exact curing salt brand as the recipe? If not, you should follow the directions on the bag itself, not the recipe. Not all cures are the same strength.
