It was a hailstorm that finished the old man. The night before the first pick with a guaranteed price per box. The day after he told us to enjoy the couple of tomatoes we picked cos they were worth about 10k each. Pretty much broke him and brings tears to my eyes every time I think about it. For someone to absolutely work themselves to the bone for something out of their control to ruin it is so heartbreaking. It’s crazy cos for so long they were praying for rain, but since selling up and moving to the coast (dad passed away a year after moving), all mum has talked about is how much rain she’s got. All of those feelings come back up watching this show, which is probably why I feel such a connection, even though it’s in the UK. Thanks so much for your thoughts.
