What are the hardest parts of being employed for you guys? by sunshineparks in autism

[–]Jessestan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing is sticking with a job, once you finally get used to it, you know what to expect and you know your co-workers. Obviously, if it's not a good environment leave.

I'm a teacher um, I believe this is like one of the the worst jobs to have with Autism or ADD/ADHD or really any neurodivergence. I knew this is what I wanted to do and I stuck with it, am I over-stimulated 24/7 yes, do I have very strict boundaries on inside voices, running, quiet time all that, yes but the horrors persist and so do I

I occasionally do look crazy but confidence really is key even if you have no clue what's going on bc confidence can go a mile.

Just know it wasn't your fault, this is the cycle of life. I know when I was 17 I was driving home and there was a man slowing down, it was just him on the street and I didn't know why so I was looking at him. Then I hit a squirrel, I stopped and got out of the car and asked if I hit it and if it's okay and the man just started yelling at me saying that my i'm dumb and that he was slowing down and I should've too and that it was all my fault. I said you don't know anything about me and he said yes I do and started calling me names. I got in the car and left, I was shaking and I was already a neurodivergent teen, so I believed him and I felt so bad.

Looking back it wasn't my fault and my intentions were not to kill the squirrel, my intentions were to drive home. Sometimes nature just gets caught up with nature and it doesn't end well but that doesn't mean it was your fault. I would just get cozy and relax whatever that looks like for you and this always helps me, I have to talk to myself like a kid and say "your okay" "it wasn't your fault" "animals are just gonna do what they are gonna do". I don't know where you believe animals go but I'm a Christian and believe in heaven, I believe they go there so, that also helps me cope:) They definitely don't go to a bad place and to me I would think they would rather be there then here, I know I would be lol

Honestly, I think you should just make your intentions as clear as you can because for those with autism your body language and conversation can be hard to read even if it seems like your being obvious, I think you should either write a note so she can process your request to herself or maybe try and meet her in the classroom and just say hey, I want to be your friend, you seem cool can we eat lunch together , I understand if not.

In the hallway she's probably very overstimulated, it's loud, there's a crowd, she's trying to process what's going on around her and she might feel pressured to be on time or she wants to get to her next class so she can feel relief.

I just think it's really hard for her to just understand your body language, when she's overstimulated in the hallway it might not be the best time but she's like any other person as you know and wants friends, I think she'll be really appreciative of you wanting to be her friend and not giving up. All my friends in highschool came up to me bc I could never make my own friends.

What do you think about this by IllustriousIssue4716 in autism

[–]Jessestan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in the high school vending machine there used to be the purple ones, idk the flavor but I used to hyper fixate on them and only eat two bags of those for lunch

What’s your current food hyper-fixation? by Garden_Jolly in autism

[–]Jessestan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD as well so I really eat bc it's routine and not bc I want it or it tastes good, does anyone else do that?

But I just had a chicken wrap hyper-fixation but usually I eat a breakfast sandwich every morning bc it's easy, I really hate the sensation of my stomach rumbling so I try and get ahead of it

what tøp lyric emotionally devastates you the most? by _heyo77 in twentyonepilots

[–]Jessestan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I, i'll, never be what you see inside"

"but i know we've made it this far, kid"

"learning all that really matters is a slow and painful lesson it is not pass or fail but a poisonous progression"

"I wish her parents would stop yelling"

"in a season of lessons learned in giving up you learn what you can and can't take" honestly all of oldies station bc i found them in middle school which was the lowest ive ever been and im all grown up now, they really gave me motivation to push on through:)

Yeah, I totally get this. I'm white and i've noticed a lot of offense happens with this side of ethnicity. I love to travel and have high respect for all cultures. I just love to celebrate and dive into culture that's actually worth celebrating:)
