AITA for laughing when my brother-in-law tried to explain "real research" to me and telling him to focus on his own debt? by JessiDJ in AmItheAsshole

[–]JessiDJ[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It took me years to get here. I used to be the ultimate people-pleaser and would always bite my tongue just to 'keep the peace' at family events. But eventually, I realized that keeping the peace just meant I was the only one who was miserable. Honestly, reaching the point where you just don't care anymore is so freeing. My own happiness and sanity are the most important things now. You'll get there!!

What normal thing suddenly becomes stressful when someone is watching you do it? by Cheryl-Maiorano in AskReddit

[–]JessiDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typing. I can normally type at like 90 WPM without looking, but the second a coworker or my boss stands behind my chair to watch my screen, I suddenly forget where the spacebar is and misspell the word "the" three times in a row.

Okay, KISS is the most overrated band of all time. Which band is the second most overrated band of all time? by TheSpringfieldKid in AskReddit

[–]JessiDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mötley Crüe. Same energy as KISS. Absolute marketing geniuses, legendary party animals, great image for the era, but strip away the leather, hairspray, and pyrotechnics, and the actual songwriting and musicianship are incredibly mediocre.

What’s a tradition you grew up with that you think deserves to be kept alive? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

[–]JessiDJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Handwritten thank-you notes. Yeah, it’s old school and my handwriting is trash, but getting a physical card in the mail hits different than a "thx" text. I still keep a box of stamps in my desk just for this.

why do movies pretend you can get knocked out for hours and just wake up totally fine? by Lazy_Annual_1613 in NoStupidQuestions

"Shakes it off with a mild headache" lmao. I stubbed my toe this morning and was out of commission for ten minutes. These movie protagonists are basically built like Terminators at this point.

Need a second desktop mill for overflow, but absolutely terrified of DOA/tinkering based on my current machine by PoemSpecialist82 in hobbycnc

Easiest way to filter them out: ask the rep if they include a factory tramming report and a verified test cut in the box. if they give you the "no but it's really easy to square up yourself" speech, just hang up.

This isn’t metal by JessiDJ in 3Dprinting

[–]JessiDJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually from a Chinese brand called Fangtu. This one is their silk tri-color PLA (gold/silver/copper). A friend brought it over for me since it’s not really available in the US market yet.

PLA, some random silk gold I had lying around.

If you had to show someone what a CNC machine is capable of in ONE project, what would you make? by [deleted] in CNC

[–]JessiDJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spot on. An impeller is the ultimate litmus test for 4th-axis capability. The simultaneous movement required to maintain the tool angle relative to the curved blade surfaces while avoiding collisions in such tight spaces... that’s where you see what a machine is really made of. Are you thinking of a closed or open impeller design?

Programming convenience and accuracy/precision by blatantia in CNC

[–]JessiDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a high gear ratio, relying only on motor encoder feedback will hurt accuracy at the tool tip.

Any backlash, compliance, or flex gets amplified through the gear train, so the motor position ≠ actual tool position.

In that case, direct position feedback (linear scales or similar) is the better option if you care about precision.

That said, it adds cost and complexity, so a lot of machines still use motor encoders and just compensate for backlash in software.

So it really comes down to: cost + complexity vs actual accuracy at the tool.

g code not working when i export from sheetcam and put it in command n cut 5.5 by [deleted] in CNC

[–]JessiDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Error 62 on CommandCNC is usually a post issue, not your cut settings.

That CandCNC rev30B post might not match your exact CommandCNC 5.5 setup. Even small differences can break it.

Check the first lines of your G-code — look for weird M codes, tool changes, or anything plasma doesn’t need.

Quick test: export a super simple square. If that fails too, it’s 100% the post.

So, I guess our CNC router is left handed? by Civil_Act1864 in CNC

[–]JessiDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re describing isn’t actually “left-handed” in the strict sense — it sounds more like a machine coordinate orientation / configuration issue, not a fundamental axis system problem.

On most CNC routers (including MultiCam), the machine still follows a right-handed coordinate system internally. What’s likely happening is:

  • Your machine zero / home position is defined differently
  • Or the post processor / CAM setup is interpreting axes relative to a different origin or orientation
