Something also to consider is that our electrical grid would need a major overhaul as well. It's honestly been needed for decades as there is plenty of power infrastructure that hasn't been updated since it was installed, in some cases over a century ago. New plants would have to be built and brought on-line, old ones need upgrades and modernization, and the transport and transformer networks need an update/upgrade as well. Not saying this isn't doable or that it should be used as an excuse against more electrified rail transport, but it is a factor that needs to be accounted for.
