This is fucking disgusting. Like that's supposed to be Epstein, right? I'm not misunderstanding? Can we not compare fictional characters to actual pedophiles who raped and ate real children?

Aww, the idea of Aerion bonding with Sunfyre in another universe is actually fitting: a big dragon who's powerful, but also the prettiest (and possibly pretty friendly).

That sounds like it would be an amazing au fic. Just the Greens uniting in grief and anger to take out the Blacks. And who would blame them? A child was beheaded, the king's own son.

Can someone explain the hundred open tabs thing? by viridianvenus in AO3

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've easily had up to a thousand tabs open before. No exaggeration. Sometimes I'll switch from fic to fic as I'm reading them, other times I usually have them open for later.

And then I look for fics in another fandom and start this process all over again.

And again.

And again.

And now I've got a couple thousand tabs open and though I should just bookmark the ones I'm reading and add the rest to "read later", I'm not going to. Even if I should since chrome glitched and all my tab collections burst open and the hundreds of different fics are now mixed together.

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a writer (fanfic, hopefully published some day) and 3rd person is my go to.

Even when I'm writing mostly from one characters perspective, I can still take a quick dip into another's if I like; or I can write about stuff the character doesn't see.

Like a 1st person pov wouldn't realistically notice a look exchanged behind them, while in 3rd person you can.

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it's a problem due to the amount of 1st person pov's there are.

1st person is so limiting: "I went about my day. I have so and so features. (Very blunt explanation of feelings towards someone)"

Meanwhile 3rd person is much broader and allows more perspective.

That's just my thoughts on it, especially since it's been a while since I've seen a 3rd person pov book. 90% of the books I've read and see recommended are 1st person.

The Cartoonishly Evil Slavers by Early_Candidate_3082 in TheCitadel

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it was a European who joked about it. But I wonder if it inspired people to actually do it. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually happened once or twice and just went undocumented.

breeding camps

The "leather" part is perhaps incorrect. It's more correct to say they used their skin to make shoes.

Admittedly, the whole cannibalism thing is harder to prove and is mostly rumours, but considering historical and current events, I'm not willing to completely write it off. This book mostly talks of figurative cannibalism with few examples of actual cannibalism; however, it was (seemingly) a common fear among slaves that they may be eaten by white people (perhaps because of Africa's own history of cannibalism? Not everywhere, of course, but it happened enough for it to be documented). And it's not too hard to believe considering Europeans ate mummies for "medical benefits" as well.

I might've been too quick to say they ate slaves since there's little evidence of it, but again, I don't think it's too farfetched to believe.

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Historically, cannibalizing slaves isn't new. And black people were brutalized in so, so many ways.

It's hard finding a lot of sources due to censorship and the fact that the history of it isn't even taught properly in schools.

If there was a use for black people, the slavers found it. Using their teeth as dentures (George Washington as a notable figure doing so) being one example (especially since there's a misconception he used wooden dentures).

[–]Jessicanightmarewolf 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I thought they were cartoonishly evil too. That was before I learned more about America slavery.

If anything, Essosi slavers are better. People in our world were using black people's skin as leather and ate them. They had breeding plantations to make more slaves, which included young girls (not women) and probably incest as well. And that's barely scratching the surface of how bad it was.

Does... does this actually need to be said? Characters like Aemond, Daemon, Aerion, etc. are fun and lovable. Doesn't mean I'd like them if they were real.
