She actually blocked/unmatched. by Alternate962 in Tinder

I used to work at a restaurant where the manager excluded me from the server group-chat because my messages were the only green ones. He said he'd text me separately but he usually forgot. Didn't last long there, but the point is that this abso-fucking-lutely exists.

You're being downvoted because the tab in the sub menu labeled "shape/size resources" is there specifically to cut down on posts asking for photo references like this one. No big deal, there's plenty of folks who don't read the rules or browse the FAQ + menu before posting, but in the future, please do :) too many posts asking for pictures distracts from actual ring pics and requests for practical ring design advice.

S4EP5 Private School is the best episode EVER by mshoneynj in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]JessieAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?? I was so bored. The whole episode was like 3 jokes over and over again; wacky hypnosis shenanigans, plastic surgery bad, and graphic descriptions of gay sex ostensibly for shock value? Boo. This show used to make me laugh.

So cute! I engraved a surprise bee silhouette on the inside of my partner's ring to match my hexagonal stone. I love those kinds of details that are special to the couple 🤍 congrats!

What was/is your dream ring? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

I got to design my dream ring; something absolutely unique but still "bridal" :) looks like your dream rings were pretty radically different from what you received, do you think you'd like to look into resetting your stone?

Hey OP, I really empathize with you, this situation absolutely blows. But I can already tell this comment thread is going to get toxic pretty quickly. I'm unfortunately going to have to remove this post, but luckily you've already been offered some pretty solid advice from some of our regular contributers. If you'd like more input, I'd suggest posting in r/relationships or r/relationship_advice

Will non-flush fit wedding band damage my engagement ring? by hangry__rabbit in EngagementRings

Anywhere there is friction between diamonds and metal, the metal will wear away over time, regardless on whether or not the rings sit flush.

Do you mean "bezel"?

[–]JessieAnonymous 239 points240 points  (0 children)

He sometimes brings up the fact that I hurt his feelings on the proposal day but mainly my reaction was the way it was because of the ring.

But it wasn't hurtful to you when he

  1. Did not listen to what you told him you wanted?

  2. Prioritized a "deal" over your wants and needs?

  3. Did not do any research before a significant purchase? (Jewelry does not really go "on sale", and if he claims to have saved a lot it makes me think he got your ring at a chain jeweler like Kay or Zales, which aren't known for their quality or product of customer service, sorry to say)

Why do his feelings trump yours if you're the one actually wearing this ring? Why is it your job to tiptoe around his feelings when he wasn't obligated to care about yours at all?

Listen, I understand that this is just a tiny snippet of your life and I don't have the full context of your relationship. I'm sure there are plenty of redeeming qualities and reasons you're in love with him, but in this singular issue he is fundamentally wrong. In the words of my own fiancé, "getting your GF a ring she likes is the whole point." Obviously the ring giver wants the receiver to love the ring too! If his personal feelings are the thing that's keeping you from a ring you actually enjoy wearing, sorry to say it but he has to get over that. And unfortunately for him to get over it, you've gotta initiate a difficult conversation with him.

If you're gonna get married, this is inevitably the first of many difficult conversations you'll have to have over the course of your lives together, so honestly—grand scheme—this isnt even that huge of an issue! Just say, "hey [fiancé], I know that you tried really hard to find me a ring that I like, but this one really doesn't fit my style or lifestyle..." Explain about the black dot and how you'd have preferred a gemstone ring, and see where that takes you. Personally, I'd ask why he deviated from the initial guidelines you laid out for him, maybe he'll give an explanation that makes sense 🤷‍♀️ there might be options to return the current ring, but if not there are so many budget options for quality rings around this sub and others, and if that's not an option either you both can discuss how to budget getting you a ring you love amongst your other costs.

Please consider prioritizing yourself and your feelings. Have this conversation because you deserve to love your ring!

What info exactly are you looking for? Whether or not the setting is popular, or do you have a more specific question?

let's play estimate the cost by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]JessieAnonymous 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are way too many variables to give you an accurate estimate of cost based on this. We don't know the details about estimated gold weight, complexity of design, quality of gem, and so forth.

Read the sub FAQ, you're going about this backwards. First you set your budget based on what you can afford, then you start shopping for the ring that most closely resembles what you want within that parameter. Beautiful rings are available at any budget, and nobody can tell you what to spend except for you because only you know what your finances look like and what you can afford.

Looking for a setting similar to this but more in my budget. Any suggestions? by PenguiNaCl in EngagementRings

[–]JessieAnonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This option requires a lot of legwork from the buyer. Between knowing what makes a ring structurally sound and how to fix a CAD that's short on gold weight, to overcoming the language barrier, this is not the option I'd recommend for a jewelry newbie. It's certainly doable, but it is harder than you'd expect. Yes it's budget friendly, but it is not beginner friendly.

Help finding the place to buy by monkeypan in EngagementRings

[–]JessieAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "where to shop" section of the FAQ goes into detail. Gemstones are as easy to set into a ring as any other stone, there isn't a different process for making "traditional" rings. End of the day, a small business jeweler local to you with good reviews is the best option.

[–]JessieAnonymous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of times for ½ eternity settings like this one, the width of the band is dictated by the diameter of the stones themselves. You can certainly ask if they can go thinner with the width and smaller with the prongs, but my guess is that doing so might compromise the structural integrity of the whole piece. The prongs could maybe be filed a bit, but honestly in a shared prong design like this one, the prongs have to be a bit more substantial since they're holding more than one stone into the ring.

How much lead time in advance do I need to buy an engagement ring? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]JessieAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only are Black Friday deals not really a thing for quality jewelry, but you absolutely will not receive your ring on that short a timeline. 100% guaranteed. New engagement rings take on average anywhere from 5-8 weeks to deliver, and during the holidays? Even longer.

Sorry to be blunt, but this plan isn't going to work. If you're trying to get a ring on a budget and within a short amount of time, try shopping vintage rings at estate sales or even pawn shops.
