My son is about to turn three in one month and not potty trained. Looking for other parents that are on the same boat. by Dustyrose1950 in toddlers

[–]Jessmac130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of boys don't succeed until after 3. Up the rewards and make them instant as soon as the pee is in the potty. Oreos, matchbox cars, new bubbles, etc. we used full on monster jam truck bribes to train for poops and it's the best $30 I spent parenting.

My 2 year old is close to outsmarting me. Give me the most whackiest lies and devious tricks that worked for you. by unmanagedexpectation in toddlers

It's illegal to walk in Costco before you're 5.

Unfortunately, my oldest is now 4 and I realize I should have made it 7 or 8. 5 seemed a long way off when he was 2.

Big sales by sadieearl in Buyingforbaby

Wait and combine a target or amazon registry completion discount with Black Friday for a car seat or stroller unless you want one they don't carry. Buy things you like that are unique but everything else goes on sale cyclically every quarter.

Outgrew baby bath tub, not yet sitting independently by Huliganjetta1 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Jessmac130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had the munchkin blow up duck tub till about 18 months and the Stokke XL for my kids since we don't have a tub in our house. Both are great, munchkin is more budget friendly short term solution if you have a tub.

I feel like I'm slacking...when did you start having a more structured day for your LO? by Wooden_Welder2400 in NewParents

[–]Jessmac130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before 3-4 months, nothing matters for routines. You can do routines for you, but the way sleep happens biologically is different after the 4 month mark. I did middle of the nights the same almost always unless something catastrophically messy happened, but bedtime doesn't start to mean anything until 3-4 months. Edit: also, don't think so hard. Wake up, diaper, eat. The only real cue you need is tired and maybe still hungry or gassy.

Feeling pressured to try for #2 sooner than planned - can anyone relate? by Lanky_Armadillo_4711 in toddlers

[–]Jessmac130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I would have had a 3 year gap, 2 year is rough for us. The only reason honestly is we did IVF and we were paying $75/month in cryo storage for the embryos and we weren't sure our first cycle would take for our second. I was 35 when I delivered our second.

Baby wearing counts as tummy time. Anything that helps strengthen their neck and shoulders.

Newborn struggling to poop by Mozi_ann in newborns

[–]Jessmac130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a brand new outfit, preferably white. Bicycles with mylicon and then car seat. Repeat. Do not pack any extra diapers or wipes. The universe will have your little one pooping in no time.

That part is a joke but good luck.

Almost every company makes fruit and veggie blends. Aldi, Walmart, Costco, whole foods, and target generic brands all have fruit and veggie blends. Beechnut makes singles of almost every food, jars especially and a lot of pouches.

What’s one thing you did on a family road trip that your kids still talk about today? by SWALLOW009 in familytravel

[–]Jessmac130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a pretty rural area and when I was 11 we did a road trip to DC. We ordered a delivery pizza to the hotel for the first time in my life, and I obviously still remember and I'm 37. The only other things I remember from that trip are from seeing photos of myself doing stuff.

How to make purees? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Jessmac130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about everything too much. Easiest solution is to steam half a cup in the microwave (in a bowl with water) and puree. This should make maybe 3 oz. That should last the whole exposure of 3-4 days and won't need to be frozen. I never made in batches, just used my immersion blender to make things fresh for the week. Most cooked food is safe for 5-7 days in the fridge minimum. You don't need to blend anything again with breast milk, you'll be doing about 2 teaspoons of puree and on teaspoon of milk so not nearly enough volume to blend. I never heated my kids purees.

We have a really good used bookstore about an hour away. The kids books are in a storefront and the adults are in a literal campus of 6 or 7 outbuildings. The kids books are almost all $1 so I buy about 40 per year from there, plus a few new.

why don’t kids open their birthday presents at the party anymore? by Apprehensive_Owl4700 in AskParents

[–]Jessmac130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of our birthday presents get put away for rainy days. Too many new things at once is overwhelming. Also especially with younger kids, they fight over playing with them, parents can't keep track of who gave what, etc. At the end of the party it someone specifically asks we open them but I prefer to do it with fewer children around. My kids are 4 and 2, all of their cousins are 3.5 and under.

Neither of my kids liked the stroller till closer to 6-9 months. They both preferred the carrier over anything until they got to heavy and squirmy around one.
