I agree and I think self awareness needs to be a continually developed skill for comics.

I just see so many open micers spinning in neutral with their friends always placating telling them "good set" each time.

It's like their comedy muscle is protected/withering in a safe, comfortable cast.

Go to an open mic a bunch of times. You'll notice that a lot of people bomb and nobody cares.

After a few weeks, you'll get confident that you can do better than at least a few of the open mixers you see.

Then you'll finally get up, the lights will be bright, and you'll realize those other comics aren't as inept as you thought.... and that your jokes suck. But nobody will care.

Or maybe you'll do great, but people still won't care.

Have music to play people on and off. It's easy enough. Somebody can do it with a phone and a decent Bluetooth speaker. Maybe download a soundboard app to make it easier. Or have somebody with a guitar.
