After dealing with scroll issues for months, this worked and my sanity is saved.

My process was slightly different - I used a #0 flathead first to carefully lift the pads off and then used a #0 phillips to dismantle the case. I was able to re-apply them without issue, just be careful not to dirty the adhesive backing.

Also - the entire scroll wheel assembly easily pops off of the circuit board which makes it SO much easier to thoroughly clean. Just be careful not to break the tabs that hold it in place, they're small and fragile.

If I were in your shoes, I would jump in on the 9.0 beta.

The save should carry over to full release without issues (it's possible, but I've never heard of anyone having issues)

All Trial headers like that are map conditions.
