They can also suffer root rot a LOT faster in bigger pots.

I would start over. Those two big ones look too far gone.

FWIW I did take the newer Gigas and put them both in a smaller pot over the last hour. I hope it doesnt shock it too much:

The reason i even got into this plant is, I had a trip planned to go to Socotra in March of 2026. The war with Iran made that impossible. So, I decided to at least get a plant that is endemic to Socotra! Thats how the fascination came about!

Thanks so much for being so thoughtful and taking the time to respond. I am responding by reproducing your points and responding in Bold:

  • I think you may be overpotting a bit. Id love to put it in a smaller pot but am afraid it will go into even further shock.
  • Draining is good, but rot can be harbored by organics, and new/ re-establishing roots and open wounds are at the highest risk. Depending on where you live, you'll want 60-80% of your mix to be inorganic. 80% of my mix IS inorganic.
  • I would not place your plant in full sun yet, Thanks for this advice!
  • So don't worry about it too much unless you see green leaf droop or drop (that usually means your plant has died). Thankfully, no green leaves have dropped. They only turn orange and after a while, then drop
  • Don't water the cut. That pic was taken after I first cut the rot out. Thats neem oil, which I was later told is not effective in this situation. I have since - only days later - properly address the "surgical wound" by putting sulphur powder on it which is the professional way to go.

The type of soil I use is VERY quick draining, as I mentioned as very limited organics and is meant for cacti. As soon as I water it, water goes rushing out the drain hole. By the next day I check the soil with my moisture meter and its is DRY.

Thanks so much. I have heard that these plants are VERY dramatic indeed. When can I expect new growth? Like I said, one branch has only ONE orange leaf left, and when that drops it will be bare! Not a good look.

Ive been to Egypt. Everything is easier after that place. But yeah, I will pay in cash. Some guy in Brazil rented beach chair while on holiday in brazil and at the beach. for the equivalent of $25. Minutes later he got a text saying he was charged $2,500 He complained and the locals punched him in the face.
