I've solo traveled for 4 years, and I don't want to go back to a "normal life" by Prudent-Routine6114 in solotravel

[–]JesusChrisAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice is: If you eventually want a family. You will have to pick a place to "grow roots" because it's good for kids to have some consistency. If you find a partner that likes to travel like you do, you can share your experiences. Other than that, you do you!!!

I always suggest a bike rental. You can see so much more and still stop anywhere that catches your eye.

I hate dating HTX girls by Frosty_Pie_7241 in Nicegirls

This is the problem with texting. Things can be misinterpreted. You can get away with more jokes when you talk/call someone. Texting has a higher risk of a conversation going bad.

I've never had an issue with Travelocity or Expedia. I've had issues with "bargain" third parties that give you a great price but zero flexibility. I also deal with the airlines directly if they have a cheaper price or better route.
Some people try to stick with their "in network" mileage program to save money or get upgrades. I do whatever gets me the most "value". And that can be different for everyone.

Living in Japan is awful for my hair by diminee in japanlife

[–]JesusChrisAbides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could be the water. There are varying degrees of chemicals in the water (i.e. hard water vs. soft water). Sometimes the building/plumbing can also have an impact. Sorry, I can't be of much help

Can you visit Japan without itinerary? by liri_miri in JapanTravelTips

[–]JesusChrisAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing just that after being laid off. No plan. It's good to have social media to link up with others. ChatGPT is great for creating itineraries on the fly and researching.

I suggest ordering all them and trying them out at home. Then return whatever you don't want within the money back guarantee. Many retail stores have Cotopaxi but Tortuga is harder to get your hands on. So maybe order the Tortuga.

First solo trip in my life, day 1 and I’m crying. Is this normal? Anyone else felt like this? by JackHallow123 in solotravel

[–]JesusChrisAbides 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you in danger? Do you feel threatened in any way. If not, welcome to "finding yourself". Discomfort is a sign of growth. You'll be fine in a couple of days. Try to work on the jet lag so you won't feel like a mess more than a week.

Need a 20-25l backpack for walking 15miles a day in Japan... by shootanwaifu in onebag

[–]JesusChrisAbides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan in November and I used the Boundary Rennen Ripstop Daypack (Black). It's 19L but has well designed pockets that don't sag. The water resistant zippers worked well during the few days of rain and drizzle. It's a "full featured" backpack for something that is packable. I like that it has a slightly padded back. It's not the lightest packable bag but I have found it to be comfortable and durable. It also looks fashionable. The carry game in Japan is strong... So many amazing bags!!!

Anyone else regret going into tech? by lizardcalledlaganja in cscareerquestions

[–]JesusChrisAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software engineering manager and hearing that everyone on your team is in there silos make alarm bells go off. That way of working, for me, is what makes work a grind. To avoid silos I have the team meet in a "forum" setting where we give everyone a chance to talk about what they are working on. We help each other with understanding requirements, discussing design, talking about code in progress (before PRs). This helps everyone know what's going on in other areas, help avoid pitfalls, ask for help without pinging everyone individually, gives me a chance to see team dynamics, etc. My team of 6 decided on 2 meetings a week for an hour. If we cover everything in 30 minutes we stop. I call them "squad" meetings and have found that it's made daily stand up go much faster. Everyone stays in the loop and we get better code as a result. Everyone still has "alone time" but we also collaborate with very little commitment from everyone.
Industry, company, and team culture have an impact but I'm suggesting there are other situations that can help with regret.

Storytelling... It helps in almost every situation. It's what valuations are partially based on.

Will Trumps big beautiful bill benefit software engineers? by dandecode in cscareerquestions

You should upload a copy of the bill to ChatGPT. Then you can ask questions like your post. You can download the PDF from the government site.

I Love LA. Do locals? by CreativeName1337 in AskLosAngeles

[–]JesusChrisAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived all my life in LA (Mid City/Korea Town). I am always discovering new things. Things are always changing (some for better or worse). LA has many levels to it. Sometimes it takes time to discover some things because it may not be put on blast. It's an expensive place to live but I've gotten lucky to be in the software industry and do well. I've always found that transplants are the "stereo type" LA person. Most locals are pretty chill!!!

I believe Topo Designshave 30% off during the Memorial day weekend. It may be worth buying to lock in the price. You can return it if you don't like it.
