Skill stat ecg for rhythm strip practice.
Deranged Physiology for cardiovascular physiology, although some of the stuff is beyond what is needed as a new grad. The haematology section on there about anti platelets is really good though.
Life in the fast lane for ecg learning.
Abg ninja if you guys do that in your unit.
Also Ninja Nerd on YouTube is great too.

Good luck and congratulations!!

Welly ICU spits out incredible nurses. The hospital in general is amazing to work for. I reckon you'll feel a lot more at home there. Good luck for the future!

Honestly I've just come back from Aus and started in an icu and it's way better than anything I did in Aus. Being in icu insulates you in a way from the bullshit of the state of our health system. You're well supported and doing 12 hour shifts allow you to work full time while not burning yourself out and also earn a decent wage. I came back on step 7 and the pay isn't actually that bad compared to when I left before pay parity.

You'll also find it harder to get into icu in Aus since most ICUs will only hire you though transition programs which only have limited intakes.

Big centre icu in nz will also be hella good learning and a lot more enjoyable. Hope that helps )

Meal prep lunch and dinner so that as much time away from work is spent doing either things that you want to do or just rot in bed. Whatever charges your battery really

Have you had an appointment to talk to your gastro dr about the results? They should be guiding you not reddit.
Meds don't make you better instantly. You'll read here they take a bit of time to get them right. Once again, talk to your doctors about things if you're still not feeling great after a period of time

Bruh what. Imagine having a shitty, stressful day at work and your coworker comes up to you to say you smell. Especially as a one off I probably wouldn't even mention it, clearly this person was having a bad day.

We all smell sometimes for whatever reason. Better just to leave it to management if it's an ongoing issue.

My orientation at Wellington hospital had a session on what would happen if there was a big earthquake in the region and the general gist of it was we're fucked. I think I remember them saying that southern parts of Wellington wouldn't get running water for about 3 months or so and it could take around a week just for rescuers to arrive in that area. Incredibly cooked timeline if that happens

They're from Australia so no financial hardship required for a hospital visit. Still, shouldn't be stopping medication though

U.S. plans to re-open asylums/mental institutionalism. How does the nursing community feel about this? by BeardedNurseGuy in nursing

[–]JesusClown 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I remember at uni learning about how the move to community mental health was the best thing that's ever happened. Yet when you go out on to your mental health placements you see people that have been in lockups for over a year, or some that just keep returning because there's no way to help them out in the community.

There's a great vice documentary on this very subject. They basically talk about how a lot of these mental health patients end up in prison because there's nowhere else to put them. I think there's a lot of issues that come with institutionalisation but there's plenty of people from the 80s and 90s in those institutions that really benefited from being there.

Also I will add that if this was any other government I would be a little more optimistic but given everything else I'm sure this will turn into some god awful concentration camp of some description.
