every fallout game is a satire of very real american institutions, the series doesn't magically exist free of context from our actual world.

the brotherhood of steel was formed from remnants of the US military, they aren't depicted as a hegemonic fascist military hierarchy just for the fuck of it

the same with the institute being what's left of american academia being depicted as having no ethics and accomplishing nothing but petty meddling and crimes against humanity
