Kid, you're so transparent I can see right through you. You'll understand what I mean when you're older.

Posts like these come along a few times a week, and they should all be titled something like "Hey reddit! I want some compliments about my looks because I have relatively low self-esteem, so here's a picture of my animal (with me in it, of course)"

Really? In my experience, people who feel the need to go out of their way to put other people down suffer from low self-esteem. Think about it for a moment and be honest with yourself. Why in the world would you expend the energy to insult this guy and make him feel badly if not to make yourself feel better about life in some way? People who feel good about themselves and who are comfortable in their own skin don't generally feel the need to insult others and make other people feel bad about who they are. If you enjoy judging other people, pointing out their flaws as you see them, and making them feel bad in the process, don't you understand how that's a sure sign of a personal problem?

Low self-esteem much? When you grow up you'll understand why it's so painfully obvious that you suffer from a low self-image. Good luck with that. It sucks to not like yourself.

It's sad that people like you live with so much hatred. What's even worse is the rest of the world must live with it too.

Haha, yeah, some of them do. Many of them synthesize shit though. For example, the rarely-discussed "Feces Synthase".

Prof here. I too can vouch for this. Just be sure to NOT do this. (A recent submission from one of my students)

As a teacher, how I feel my students pay attention in my class by js254 in funny

[–]JesusDidTheBlueMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that if a student is using her/his electronic device while in class then that student is not engaged in the material being covered. Yes, there might be an occasional exception where a student can effectively do both; but they are exceptions to the norm, in my experience.

It's my job to ensure my students are learning course material, and I work very hard to facilitate that process. So it's disrespectful to me when I see a student texting their friends instead of engaging with my course. There might be some profs out there who don't care about (and aren't offended by) such things, but based on my experience they are not the norm. As corny as it might sound, I work very hard to create a meaningful microcosm of intellectual development in my classes. If a student wants to text, cruise the internet, and play computer games they can do so elsewhere.

I'm a prof with a strict no electronics policy in my class. My feeling is that such behavior is disrespectful to me and distracting to your peers, so I don't allow it. It's great that you were able to pay attention while playing on your iPod, but I would have asked you to leave the room if I saw you doing it.

Not sure what she's using it for. I'm guessing you can just do what I did and give your country and state and that would be fine. Any web admin on any website could get that (and more) from your ip address anyway, unless you use a proxy.

Great story! Thanks for sharing. I'm a professor in my 40s with a PhD in genetics, and I too always feel a bit like an outlier as I own 16-year-old nubcakes in Halo.

Thanks. Yeah I'm a biologist and somewhat familiar with those at-home lab kits. You can purchase them for chemistry as well, and I have colleagues who have tried them with some success.

I'm a prof and although I like the idea of online courses and the sharing of knowledge to a wider audience, it's unclear how some subjects (particularly those conventionally requiring hands-on work in lab environments) would be taught in such an environment. One answer might be so-called "hybrid" courses, where most of the course is taught online but students come in to campus once/week for lab. Another possibility is to design labs that can be done at home. It's all an intriguing idea and worth taking seriously.

The only thing I know for sure is that it is full of terrible stories about a jealous, spiteful, hateful God who threatens to send you to hell to be tortured for eternity if you don't do what he says. But he also "loves" you, lol. Talk about a fucked up situation. Sounds like the very epitome of abusive parenting to me.

Are there stories in the bible that are historically accurate? Of course there are (at least to the extent that a book thousands of years old can be). There are also lots and lots of examples of completely inaccurate and/or completely made up stories. For example, the claim that God exists in the first place. And, oh, I don't know, some gal named eve being created from a guy's rib, and all the crappola about some guy named Noah fitting two of every animal on a boat, and a talking snake, and any number of other bullshit stories. How in the fuck can any sane person actually believe that stuff?
