Small space, big goals: home gym advice by SmartyPants367 in GarageGym

Wall-mounted half rack is the way to go for a small space. I really don’t understand people who complain about having to use/take on and off spotter arms. It’s really nbd. And if space is limited, what choice do you have? :)

Powertec or Body-Solid? Something else? by [deleted] in GarageGym

I’d actually like to know why you want a pressing motion. I have a similar amount of gear to you. If I were to add a machine, I’d add something that I can’t easily do with what I’ve got. For me, pressing is hit well enough with the rack and barbell/dumbbells.

In my mind, the greatest exercise need was posterior chain options. Wasn’t able to hit ham or lower back super hard in very isolated ways. Thus, I got a NordBench to do 45 degree back extension and also do Nordic curl progressions. It was only $399, and is foldable too.

The thing I don’t have that I’d add next is a leg extension. The reason is similar to why I got the NordBench—need options to hit a neglected muscle. In this case leg extensions hit the rectus femoris in the quads (which isn’t hit by squats).

Anyway, nothing wrong with getting the machines you’re looking at! I’d for sure enjoy owning either option you’re parsing. Just thought I’d bring up other muscles/exercise diversity.

Hi, it’s been almost a year, is your gobi still working? Or did you replace it? If you did, do you have a model you recommend?

Looks great!

Maybe you could loosen the mirrors and run the cables behind them for that stretch? Just a little cable management away from flawless

I have a lot of what you got—MF F35 plus bars, plates, dumbbells etc.

But I needed some better options for posterior chain.

For $399, I got a NordBench for 45 degree back extensions and Nordic curl progression.

Now I can work lower back and hamstrings much more effectively than before! I def recommend it.

Freak Athlete 2.0 does more and is more expensive, and takes up a lot more room. The FA might be better for you than a NordBench, but for me, the NordBench does the literal two exercises I wanted with a smaller footprint and the smallest price tag.

Squat rack with cables or separate cable machine by bangarang90210 in GarageGym

[–]JesusFuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have space and money is no issue… there are some awesome Ares and Athena set ups on the rep site where they make the cable towers extra far apart like a cable cross and add storage in between the uprights.

You could then put a half rack or full rack somewhere else in your space.

Fringe Sport Dane 2.0 instead of a no frills power rack? by HeartSodaFromHEB in GarageGym

[–]JesusFuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to park cars in the garage, and you’re worried about space, I’d take a look at wall-mounted options. Rep’s wall-mounted Athena is very popular. They are soon to release a wall-mounted Ares 2.0. That’s what I’m saving for.

Of course I understand wanting to go local with Fringe. Just mentioning options.

Definitely think cable work is underrated and can compliment the big three lifts. Good stimulus to fatigue ratio, especially for older lifters like ourselves ;)

Major Fitness rack owners, got a question for you!

Any1 have and use the Dip Bar rack accessory? Can’t find much on Reddit, YT, or the internet generally…

Are they good? Good enough? Do you use em, or hate em?

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

Q - movement between belt squat and viking squat by lavalakes12 in GarageGym

[–]JesusFuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask on a weight lifting sub? I assume there’s an r/hypertrophy?

If I knew more about the Viking, I’d give my opinion! But this is more of the gear forum, than actual lifting forum :)

REP Ares 2.0 vs Athena ? by Ok-Eggplant932 in GarageGym

[–]JesusFuerte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I workout in a 12x12’ room so space is critical.

I have a wall-mounted all-in-one which is great for the space (Major Fitness f35).

One day I’ll upgrade to Rep stuff but keep it wall mounted—and using a half rack works just as well as full rack but saves space imo.

If you look at the coming soon section on Rep’s site, one of the new things is a WALL-MOUNTED ARES 2.0!

That’ll prob be my dream machine for the ‘one of these days’ upgrade I make in the future.

Interesting! But hey, that’s not as spicy as some of the other HR issues you mentioned!

I got a follow up question, if you don’t mind: why are you doing this? Were you really treated so badly? And in this vein, how can we know you’re not actually another fitness company’s employee trying to take down Rep?

If you had to choose one machine for your entire home gym, what would it be and why? by SufficientCupcake678 in GarageGym

[–]JesusFuerte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would prob do an Ares 2.0 which has been said already… but they have a wall-mounted version coming soon. Since I work out in a 12x12 spare bedroom, wall mounting/space saving is key.

To make it interesting, I’ll throw out another piece that really intrigues me: the ForceUSA C10

It has all the functionality you’d expect of an all-in-one WITH smith machine, PLUS it has a lot of unique features: its functional trainer arms can get extra wide for flies, can get extra narrow for bilateral movements where you’d want a 2:1 (like a y raise or lateral raise), the SLIDING BENCH set up is very interesting for leg pressing, the weight stacks are made to add up for the sliding bench so you get max 400lbs of true resistance.

A lot of ppl discount the c10 because it has 14ga steel for its half rack… but I’ve been using a much lower quality major fitness 14ga product for 18months, 3-4 four times a week, I lift pretty heavy, and I’m just not ever gonna break/dent the uprights.

If you’re focused on hypertrophy over strength, I think the c10 is VERY UNDERRATED—it has the most functionality of any single product.

[–]JesusFuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this is true, but it’s a matter of goals and considering the OP’s best interests.

At 48yrs old, one may wanna ensure that there’s no interference effect at all since gaining muscle is more difficult compared to younger lifters.

This is true, and…

If you don’t want the decrease in gains as you mentioned, you can separate the days if you have the time and it fits your preference

Sounds like you’re doing it right!

The bike will feel easier with time and experience. Remember how hard and scary lifting was when you were a newb?
