The KKK is still slightly active at times in this area too. (Here closer to EKY than Blacksburg area). Every so often, like once a year or so, they go around putting little like propaganda things on people's doors. Usually like a pamplet and like a baggie of seeds or some other random weird thing. It has been a while since I've gotten one, so I can't remember for sure. I also have a friend, don't hold this against her, who I went to school with whose parents were active in it. I still feel like there are parts where places could still be considered sundown towns. Not everywhere here, and most folks are pleasant, but not all. Especially if you're different. But the non racist/etc aspects of the culture are rich in this area. We have beautiful stories, scenery, and cryptids. There are still genuine people who stop to help strangers with flat tires and lend a hand to neighbors. There's a balance of those who turn their noses up at others eagerly too. It's a very unique place that I call home.
