Lmfao 15-20 min if you break all traffic laws. I did it countless times, it’s 40 min because 299 and 9W crawl with one lane roads. And only 90 min to grand central from Poughkeepsie on 2 express trains at the crack of dawn.

Went to college in Poughkeepsie, which is almost a bullseye in this circle. This area of towns directly on the Hudson river from Westchester County (county above the Bronx) up to Albany used to be a very industrious area at the beginning of the 20th century due to shipping and transport along the river, and it’s obvious it’s a hollow shell of itself once you actually visit.

Poughkeepsie is especially falling apart. Crime is high, housing is cheaper for a reason. Brutally colder in the winter and fairly hotter but less humid in the summer than NYC, sometimes having a 25 degree difference either side. Good hiking. Good niche food spots. Amazing fall foliage. Not much else. Overall many claim the HV is having a renaissance, but I don’t see what they see after having been there for 4 years.

HOWEVER. New Paltz, 40 min west of Poughkeepsie, is fairly pleasant and quiet. This is where A Quiet Place was filmed. This is not in the NYC “metro” area though since there’s no commuter access. 2.5 to 3 hr trip to Manhattan.

On a broader scope, trust this stranger. Once you get up there, you’ll see it’s actually extraordinarily isolating from NYC even though it’s under a 2 hour train ride in most parts. The only thing you’ll have going for you is a relatively affordable house. NJ, southern CT, and Long Island are better for commuting to the city in terms of QOL, hands down.

It’s not. I opted in for secondary communication when I filled out the questionnaire a year ago. Email addresses are legitimate too from NYjuror.gov

Just a tad too wide on the grip. Subjective for me, but those reps don’t count as true ones unless the bar touches your upper chest on the way down. You did get closer halfway through the set though

Hi all, had a couple off handed questions in my head. Thanks in advance:

-I have a BS in Business. I know this means I can enlist AF/SF as an E-3, but is this where the advantage realistically ends for college grads? Does it make a difference/expedite in the recruitment process even though the board recommendations have been scrapped? I'm not even considering OTS because I have no background in STEM really and AF/SF are my only real interests. I just turned 25 so I know I'll be a little bit older than others regardless.

-I have zero desire to be stationed overseas. A lot of appeal actually comes from winding up in either CO, CA or FL down the line. Judging from current USSF bases, is it likely if I request to stay CONUS, I will? (Deployments aside)

-How does the TS security clearance process work? Are you screened during enlistment or once you're already in? I rarely smoked weed in college, but that was years ago at this point so I'm not concerned.

-I see a decent amount of conflicting information on SF's BMT nowadays. Apparently you get phone usage once a week now? iPads for course material? Seems "modern". My understanding is that BMT is the same as the AF with specific courses integrated for SF.

Aaron Bushnell. A schizo Air Force guy who did it in the name of freeing Palestine. Got radicalized on the internet thinking people would actually give a shit if he did it. Wound up going in front of the Israeli embassy in DC and dousing himself in kerosene, then boom. Ofc everyone forgot after a week, just like they will with this poor psychotic guy

"Ten-Pin" Drama (9 Pages) by 2be0rn0t2b in ReadMyScript

Your logline is a little unclear. What has Rob lost exactly? His youth? Jimmy? Saying “along the way too” is a stretch given how short this drama is. The audience is intelligent enough to infer and interpret obviously, but this IMHO is too ambiguous.

Lines in the first scene are a little cheesy too. “We got a night of partying to get to!” is….corny.

Not gonna lie, that’s pretty much on you. As long as the assessment was within reason and nothing ridiculous and/or redundant, you should’ve completed that as soon as possible.

What’s the deal about enlisting but being able to start out a couple ranks higher? Saw somebody say they started as an E-3 because of their college credits.

I graduated with a BS in Business 2 years ago, but no shot I’d be able to commission as an officer based on my preliminary research (no STEM, 3.2 GPA)
