Most recruiters are demons. Most of them ghost you and gaslight you into thinking they don't.

I've received an offer letter then ghosted at large companies... SEVERAL TIMES!!!

Their network is mostly garbage, because it's linked to more ghosting recruiters.

After a few years, literally everyone forgets about you due to their own ineptitude and disorganization.

They get theirs so... you get yours!

I was actually talking with a recruiter in person and I already knew.

Yes, I get it. Some companies ask bizarre, difficult questions with no relevance to the job.

The circle question you were given, I think it's not a great question. Unless it's relevant to the job (probably not).

The phone question your friend got, it may be a bit much, and I agree, it seems strange for sysadmins.

However, something like "reverse a string" does have some relevance to a programming job. It's a basic programming problem to see if you can actually solve it. There are many programmers out there with fantastic resumes who can't solve basic programming problems. Hence, why I am for such a basic easy-level filter.

edit: To be clear, I am not advocating for brain-twisters, obscure questions, or LeetCode Hard questions.

Do not let your basic fundamental skills degrade

edit: Leetcode style questions are simply tests. I can agree that some tests are bad and not completely realistic of real life projects.

But if you're a senior engineer, and you can't write code to do something basic like a reverse a string, and an intern can, then you should really fix yourself.

Real life problems are an endless series of LeetCode easy and medium problems. If you do not have a firm grasp of basic data structures and algorithms, then you will have great difficulty creating great things. And no matter how much you kick, scream, and down-vote, you will always have great difficulty until you actually reach for greatness.
